Yo Troopers, anyone know where you can buy the black soft foam used for cut outs in the boxes for soldiers etc. As you know you cannot always get a box with older Soldiers, but you can make your own labels etc but its the foam thats the hard stuff to find. Any ideas would be a great help.

It can sometimes be found on local market stalls. Otherwise see if you can find a local furniture restorer and ask him for his supplier, or better yet see if he has any off cuts he might be willing to let you have.

A good place is a fabric store, craft store. if you have a HOBBY CRAFT warehouse near you they sell 'egg box' foam (as i call it)

BC are a national comapany but i like the fabric stores with the old ladies and big scissors in they have a load of stuff.

Another one that works well is a furniture restore as trooper says as they sell it for restroing old peoples home chairs.

Yo Troopers, thanks guys, it wasn't a problem in the UK could buy it in the market no problem, but alas Ireland is a hard place to buy anything unless you live in Dublin:(.

Bernard,
Do you have any manufacturing supply houses or shipping/packing supply companies. I deal with McMaster-Carr in NJ here. See if there is anything like that or an equivalent to uline.com Just thinking of you.

Fabric stores here in the US tend to carry foam, too, though it's light in color (cream-colored) and not as rigid as the dark foam. I think it's used for upholstery (as Tony and trooper noted). I've used that for box inserts. It cuts easily enough with a utility knife or box cutter.

Prosit!

Bernard,

These pieces came inside the red box for the 13Pdr. Do you want me to get you some more and post them to you?
