Was in a toy museum in sydney and couldn't help snapping these shots of this display.
Not a collector of this range and don't know the manufacturer but thought it was a pretty cool display:)

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

WOW!!!

Thats a great display. The maker of these figures is Marlborough which is in the UK. It looks like they have nearly all of their sets on display including the jewel in the crown, The Rewa State Carriage which is pulled by a team of 2 elephants. That is just a fantastic display can you tell us more about the place where it is located etc?

All the best

Dave

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

I'll double that WOWZERS!! That is an incredible dsplay. Are there any more? What was the name of the museum? There are also pieces of Britains in there too. Thanks for the pics.

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Hi Redhugh,

Thank you for thinking of all of us Durbar fans. Dave is absolutely correct, the figures in your photograph are produced by Marlborough Military Miniatures. I simply drool when viewing your pictures as it is very seldom you see so many wonderful Marlborough figures in one collection.

While it is a treat to see these figures, the most outstanding and rare item in this collection is the Rewa State Carriage which appears in your fourth photograph. Very, very few of these sets have ever been produced. What you do not see is what is inside the Carriage. The roof is removable and inside you will find numerous Maharajahs seated along the windows. It is truly a magnificent set.

Seeing the elephants is also a great treat. As you might imagine, the elephants are quite expensive (the Rewa Carriage is much more expensive) and seeing so many of them in one setting is remarkable. And, then there are all the beautiful coaches, marching military units, spectators, etc. to produce an incredible display.

Thank you for taking the time to provide these pictures for us. The images are breathtaking for all of us Durbar fans!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Here are some more pics in this and the next posts, the quality isn't great as I shot thru a glass display cabinet.
The address of the museum which is in the blue mountains an hour and a half from sydney is
NSW Toy and Railway Museum, Leura, Blue Mountains, Greater Western Sydney, Australia.

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Absolutely fantastic. This looks great - and I generally do not like it too much if all the figures are cramped. But here it works.

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Outstanding display,
it is overwhelming.
I just saw the Marlborough Rewa State Carriage, drawn by two Elephants, is up for auction on ebay, offered by a seller from Australia.
The auction number is 260377098517
Some of the Durbar Fans might be interested.

Hi Guys,

Yes its quite true that there is an incomplete Rewa State Carriage up on ebay. It is missing its team of elephants, they were replaced with what appears to be a pair of Britains Circus Elephants with some modifications. So keep that in mind if you do decide to bid on it. The shipping is nearly 100 dollars too.

I actually know where this little museum is. My wife and I went up into the Blue Mountains when we honeymooned in NZ and Australia and Fiji. The museum was not open the day were were up in the mountains, figures I missed the premiere Durbar display in the Sountern Hemisphere. Oh well gives me a good reason to go back.

Thanks again for sharing it with us!

All the best

Dave

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Hi Redhugh,

Thanks for the addiltional photos! This display is most remarkable as you can view almost all the Durbar sets produced by Marlborough. It is the kind of collection most of us Durbar collectors dream about having. It is truly beautiful!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

When I was in Sydney some times ago I visited the aquarium like most tourist... a pity I didn't know of such a toy soldiers museum there.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Hi KV,

You certainly did give us a scare and I am certainly glad you still have a way with words! Coolection is a great new word for the lexicon!

Thanks for the kind words on my collection and yes indeed the Rewa State Carriage is a sight to see. I would love to own one some day!

All the best

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Yes Michael, you certainly gave us quite a scare! Heres hoping you are feeling better each day!:)

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Well my friends I am feeling better every day. Sometimes it is only a little so it doesn't feel like a change. But when over a period of time there is a definite improvement.

On the "coolection" who knows what the hand of God was doing when she guided that typo from my keyboard. It does have a nice ring to it.

In the scared department, all I can say is I am glad I was in a coma at the time. I thank God every day that I am here and for my friends and family who prayed so much for my recovery. (I do too)

I decided to bump this thread to complement an ongoing discussion on the Matte Durbar Series in another thread.

There are some great pictures posted by redhugh in this thread, Thanks.

I have taken the liberty to highlight Pat's comments on the Rewa State Carriage in bold and colour.

Best, Raymond.:)

Re: for all you dehli dhurbar fans

Hello Raymond: Attached is a photo of the inside of the Rewa Carriage and some photos from my collection. All are Marlborough except the 3rd shelf which is Trophy, Hocker and Beau Geste. The photos from the museum are great. Marlborough's website doesn't bring out the colors like Redhugh's photos. Tommy
