Thanks Chris, it looks interesting, I may have to pop in and have a look the next time I'm going through Singapore.

Interesting Chris. One to add to the Battlebox and Fort Siloso sites in Singapore when visiting.
Add the Wang Nai Chung gap British fortifications remains in Hong Kong , the Penang hill fortifications in Penang and the Corregidor island
remains here in Manila and there is the beginning of a tour.......

To keep this thread updated, the "Syonan Gallery: War and Its Legacies" has been hastily renamed "Surviving the Japanese Occupation: War and its Legacies" with effect from 17 February 2017.

Just two days after the official opening of the museum on 15 February 2017 (75th Anniversary of the Fall of Singapore), the change came about largely in reaction to the deep unhappiness of Singapore citizens on the choice of "Syonan" which to many has come to symbolize the brutal terror of the Japanese Occupation (1942 to 1945). Many considered it to be disrespectful to their grandparents and parents who had suffered and died during this period.

Note: Singapore was renamed by the Japanese to Syonan-To (meaning Light of the South in Japanese) upon the surrender of Allied Forces in Singapore on 15 February 1942.

Personally I find this change in name unnecessary..... "Syonan Gallery" seems fine to me, does not seem inappropriate {sm4}
