Hello everyone. I am uncertain if this is the right place to post this, I looked for an introduction/new persons topic, but could not find one. I'd like to apologize in advance if I've missed this somewhere, or am not following the forum's rules in some way.

Anyhow. I've recently moved, and found a small tub with about 30 toy soldiers in it. I believe I have some more somewhere. I have no idea when or why they were given to me, it was about twenty years ago. I've tried to do some identification on my own, but I have absolutely no idea what I am looking for. A lot of them have "Britain, LTD" and "England" on the bottom of them. Some of them are metal (I am assuming they are lead, though not sure), and a few are plastic. I've taken pictures of all of them (I apologize for the quality, taken with my phone) and posted them here:

Based on the things I've been able to find, I think that some of them are from this set:
http://www.uniquecollections.co.uk/... Britains Toy Soldiers Old & Other Makes 9307

and others are from this set:

I have also read somewhere that the ones that may be the bahama police marching band may be part of another set.
This is the picture of what I think is the 2186 set:

I would really appreciate any information that anyone can give me about these, what sets they're from, and if they are worth trying to sell. I'm not a collector and don't really have any interest in them, and would prefer that they go to someone that would take better care of them (They've been sitting in this box for almost 15 years) than I have.

The pictures are pretty blurry, and I can try to get better ones if y'all need them. I would rate all of them somewhere in the "very poor/poor" category as they've been heavily played with (not by me, coincidentally) and some are missing limbs and paint chips.

Again, thank you in advance for any help that y'all can give me with this, I'm pretty lost in the woods.

Hi there,

You have some nice sets there but they are all in rough shape.

Here is what I can tell by the photos:

Soldiers in Grey Overcoats and Bearskin Helmets are probably set 312 Grenadier Guards, Winter Overcoats, Slope Arms with Officer. If there is a White Plume on the side of the helmet thats correct for this set number. Could also be set 9121 which was 7 figures. Or it could be set 429 Scots Guards which would not have a plume on the helmet.

The single mounted figure in the Red Over Coat came from set 400 Life Guards in Winter Cloaks with officer. Was originally a 5 figure set and was dropped to a 4 figure set in the 1960's in set number 9205.

The Marines are from set 228 or 9182 called Marines in Blue Uniform, Slope Arms with officer, made after the war 1948 - 1966. Started at 8 figures went to 7 in 1960.
The 4 Knights are from set 1307 Sixteenth Century Mounted and Foot Knights in full Tilting Armour of the Period 9 figures initially and went to 11 in the 1960s.

The Bandsmen you have look to be the Bahamas Police Band that was produced in 1959 for export only. They had 2 versions one with 12 or 13 figures and one with 26 figures. I think you may have had the first set because the larger version had red shoulder wings.

The Plastic set of AWI looks like a Swoppet set from the late 1960's early 1970s. I dont have the set number.

The other mounted guys look to be Life Guards. Possibly from the set you listed.

Hope this helps

Dave

You're wonderful, thank you. I don't see a white plume on the grenadiers, but the 429 set you were talking about looks like it comes with the figure in the red overcoat. I think that those all probably go together since I don't have a whole lot of them. I think I recall there being more of the knights at some point, though I have no idea where they'd have gotten off to now.

Can anyone give me advice on what a fair asking price would be for all of these sets?

Hi Again,

I would advise looking on ebay for current prices. There is a lot of variation these days to prices. Since there are parts and figures missing from most of these sets they wont command top dollar/pound, however the Bahamas Band set is one that can go for pretty good money even in this condition. So List this one seperately. The rest would be best as job lots for the guys who enjoy restoration work. I will get back to you with some ball park prices.

If I were selling these, I would break them into the catagories of Marines, Knights, Horsemen+Guardsmen, and Bahamas Polce band. For the Marines and Knights, I would ask $9 a figure, and take $5 a figure. For the Horse+Guardsmen, I would ask $11 a figure and take $7. I'm not going to try to guess on the band, though. The plastics would make a nice bonus to the person who buys two sets, but are not really worth anything.
Hope that helps,
Sandor

Hi Sandor,

Good numbers. I was going to say about the same prices. I would put the band up for about $50 to start and see if it goes anywya. It should even with the condition issues.

The Marines look like a ocmplete see so I would also sell that starting at 50 and see what happens they are in good shape and dont need a lot of work.

I hope this helps.

Wow, thank you guys so much! I hate to be that uninformed guy asking how much stuff is worth (It feels weird?). I will probably be putting them up within the next few days, I suppose. I had tried looking on ebay before for some prices, but came up with 'buy it now' auctions for other sets, or auctions that had already ended and expired. I will keep y'all informed as to when I do put them up.

You could also advertise on this forum in the for sale section. However, I might dart the band at a highe price, say $75-100. It just looks like a cool piece, which is a valid reason for a price increase.

Hi y'all, just wanted to thank you both for helping me with all of this. :)

I wanted to let anyone that was interested know that I put all of the sets up on ebay and posted the link to the auctions in the ebay section.

You guys have been amazing and so helpful!

-Nathan
