Really cool display!
Outstanding, as always, George. Love the open fields, massed ranks, the many structures, and the many and varied uniform types. A very colorful conflict. -- Al
George, the books involving the conflict that I am familiar with are all written histories with the exception of a Copernac publication on Detaille that has many Franco-Prussian illustrations, but it is many years old and I can't locate it right now in order to get the exact title. I think the best 1 volume history is Michael Howard's book. Quintin Barry has done several volumes on different battles and Battery Press reprinted the German General Staff study that runs 5 volumes. -- AlThanks Al; it was a short but very bloody war with colorful uniforms on both sides sprinkled in, am getting into the period slowly but surely, need to find some good books on the subject, most of them appear to be just general histories on the conflict................
Forgot to mention that Casemate Publishers carries several Franco/Prussian titles. -- AlGeorge, the books involving the conflict that I am familiar with are all written histories with the exception of a Copernac publication on Detaille that has many Franco-Prussian illustrations, but it is many years old and I can't locate it right now in order to get the exact title. As usual George a very splendid display of military history (a rather neglected period imo) - really nice figures and terrain! ^&cool
Jeff :salute::
Actually, the book I have (and can't find) is a French publication called "Edouard Detaille: L'Heroisme d'un Siecle", published by Copernic in 1979. I like the title you have listed but I don't currently own a copy. I should get it.^&cool -- AlNot sure if this is the book you mean, but it's a good one all the same.
" L'Armee Francaise, An Illustrated History of the French Army, 1790-1885 " by Edouard Detaille
