Hello Brad,

I am actually burying the figure base in some putty on top of a wooden base.

Uniform references for this figure are not obvious. Based on the cut, I have decided to paint him wearing the Belgian Civil Guard outfit. Other references show a black trouser with a red stripe down each leg.

There was also an exhibition about the Military Art Illustration of that period in the Belgian Army Museum, some years ago . The text is in french, but scroll down to see the painting of officers of that period showing deep blue vest .

Hello Mirof,

I have that website and am aware of the official portrait of Frederic Merode during the revolution. The Storme figure shows him in a uniform after the revolution. Even the storme colour catalog shows the mid blue loose blouse, not the well cut dark blue tunic.

I get the impression that this is a hybrid costume of a loose tunic worn with a tall black hat similar to the Belgian civil guard and hence have painted it as such.
