I painted up a set of A.I.P. French guard foot artillery and for a set of cheap plastic figures they didn,t paint up to bad, they came out better then I expected for a cheap set.

Tim, In my world I don't think $15.00 a box is cheap. You ARE right that they painted up REALLY well. I've grafted shako heads on the bodies to make other units.

AIP's artillery pieces are sturdy and well detailed but do need the "dolphins" on the barrels.

Some nice paint work there Fish....but have to agree with Scott nothing cheap about them!

Sorry guys Maybe $15 bucks is not cheap? but compared to Italeri and others available? These are the cheapest napoleonic sets I know of that have cannons that look all right and have figures that are not just any old figure with a shako hat and just call them napoleonic or mexicans and just change the color of the plastic for each different nation???
So yes I consider these sets cheap, or at least cheaper then what else is available! For $15 bucks these sets are not that bad and if you shop around or find them on sale you can get these sets cheaper.

Right Tim, Italeri sets are more expensive.

Classic Toy Soldier's Mexican Artillery isn't bad or that expensive, and has uses for possibly French or Spanish Napoleonic.

I've called AIP's Royal Artillery, "US 1812" by swapping the British gun with a French gun. I've also used the Guard Artillery, with Shako Heads as French pre-Waterloo artillery.

I hope there wasn't a misunderstanding as in cheap = bad. AIP's artillerymen look good in profile. Perhaps turning a few heads will give them a 3-D look.

I do like the detailing using balck line for the creases and the clothing,

Well Done...

AND I think they are a cheap option, unlike others, because with your lick of paint, you are making somthing that would look like $100+ if it came out of China painted !!!!!!
