Hi, all,

I'd like to ask all of you John Jenkins fans about this figure, which I saw on German eBay:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/John-Jenkins...-/310642137419?pt=Figuren&hash=item4853b6d94b

I looked at his website but couldn't find this, and I'm curious about it. Is it a new piece, or an older and retired one? It looks like it depicts a figure from the Seven Years War, but if anyone knows more details about it, I'd be grateful to learn about it. There aren't many makers, whether of finished figures or of kits, who produce French cavalry from the early and middle 18th century.

Thanks in advance, prosit!
Brad

French from the North American theatre FIW.....older figure so may be retired.

Thanks! When I didn't see it on the website, I suspected that that was likely to be an older piece.

It would work for the European theater, too. The bearskin was a common piece of headgear for French dragoons in the 1740s, and also worn by the Cuirassiers du Roi. I'll have to keep my eyes open for this, in my travels.

Thanks again, prosit!

The French should easily have won the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. The British had far fewer troops on the Plain than they had at Ticonderoga with only a few small artillery pieces. The best French strategy would have been to fortify the heights above the Plain of Abraham with mass artillery from the City and force the British to attack their position on the heights or withdraw under an overwhelming artillery rain. Instead the French attacked the British line, negating the terrain advantage. The figure represents the mobile Corps under Bougainville which was a few hours away and in the rear of Wolfe. It should have been a total disaster for the British.

Several nice exhibits from the Canadian War Museum are linked below plus their analysis of the battle.
