I was bashed for not posting photos of my french 54mm army. So here they are minus the cannon crews. 98% I painted myself, while a few metal and painted plastics by friends is included. Got a British one going with about 30 figures so far and just started an Austrian. Also included are some pics of 20 Prussians I painted in a commission for a friend.

A very nice collection you have, thanks for sharing it with us. Very nice painted figures, looking forward to seeing the French pieces.

Thanks, I hope to pick up some cannon crews this weekend at the Atlanta show. I could have ordered them, but I would rather be able to buy them straight out. This has become my new mode of collecting. Creating Armies. I decided to concentrate on the French one first since I had a ton of plastic and metal figures already, just needed painting.

You have an impressive collection of lovely figures, made more so by the fact that you painted most of them. I wish I had your talent, it would make this hobby much more affordable.

It's nice to see the BMC Mexicans get a respectable place on the shelf. Are they painted as Belgians?

Thanks for the compliments guys! They are actually painted using french infantry guides that show similar pattern. A great inexpensive way to get a couple of regiments in. As far as talent, thank you very much, but I have ruined many a great casting on the way to be able to paint like I do. I like to call my style the ultimate copycat. I have borrowed many ideas from a lot of great painters. I understand the price thing though. ON a school teacher salary, I will never be able to afford all those KandC and britains figures I want, so I buy one and then copy it into my own plastic collection.

Thanks for the reply. I can see the BMC Mexicans as Austrians as well. BMC had a short run of these figures in white for those that don't paint their figures.

A lot of collectors do not see the potential of the BMC MExicans. I like them. I guess their biggest drawback is that sometimes they are not molded well with a lot of chips and extra plastic. A knife and some good paint work can take care of that though. A few years ago, I painted a set of them as Mexican infantry and sold them on Ebay. Of course, that was when the economy was good and people were spending money more freely.

Wonderful collection there. It is a nice to do it all yourself isn't it.
The BMC Mexicans were mediocre figures at best. Plenty cheap and as your images show, a GOOD PAINT JOB BRINGS THEM TO LIFE.
I painted a 24 man battalion as French Light Infantry and also some as Naussers .All quite some time ago when I started my 54mm Napoleonic collection.Nice seeing your collection. With all the new figures becoming available theres lots more to do.

You are exactly right! The truth is I spend more time on them than the more detailed and expensive plastics. They are good to start with though. No investment hardly at all and if you cannot get through painting those without losing your mind, then do not go any farther! Anytime friends look at my collection and say "I want to do something like that", I tell them start with BMC and work your way up. If you cannot do that then find another hobby.
