What are the chances of seeing a re-release of a Conte style Church for the King&Country/W.Britains WW2 crowd? There seems to be a great demand for these types of buildings and the like for several types of battle themes. I.E.
Normandy, Arnhem. The Church was a real work of art and I'm sorry I missed
out, but I believe it would make a great comeback. Not to mention other types of these buildings.:)

Hi There!
I have been working on a series of new patterns for buildings useful for the Normandy/Brittany area for a while now. My work for W. Britains comes first right now so the progress is slow.
These new building patterns are based on both period images and photos I took a few years ago while visiting the area where fighting took place in the summer of 1944.

To do justice for this campaign I think you really must build patterns that are representative of this regional architecture. Some of these buildings were built at the end of the seventeenth century and have undergone additions, repairs and modernizations. This gives many of the buildings a unique look that when displayed with your miniature collectibles, will instantly put them into a proper context.

Everyone seems to like the church and other buildings I patterned for Conte while still working for him. As a matter of fact I still have my sample church in the box in my work shop...one of the first ones made and painted.
Although these were made as high end playset scenics, they appear to be standing the test of time as they are still in demand. A fair number if these appear from time to time, and from the looks of it they may be unauthorized copies as the surface detail seems degraded.

Three of the new Hudson & Allen pieces are already being molded as we speak, and the larger buildings and scenics will appear in time for the shows later this year. Some will be available as stand alone buildings and some as an element in our shelf dioramas. These will be compatible with all of the popular 1/32 and 1/30 scale WWII figures and equipment now currently offered.

Take a peek at the diorama 'At the Edge of the Village' in the Hudson & Allen section to get an idea of the level of detail we plan on offering. This diorama has already found a new home, but we will be offering other unique one of a kind shelf dioramas with more architectural elements such as this soon.
All the best,
Ken

Ah Ken, my heart's a flutter.... Usually that's not a good thing:eek:but can't wait to see what you will be presenting.

BTW for those interested, there is a Conte church on eBay at this moment look for d day playset #6

I took a look at the E-bay listing and this one is the real deal. It is even in the original box with the artwork I drew for Richard with it. This should make a nice addition to someone's collection.

Ken,
The ads I've seen of the Church show a building to the right looking at the church not the priory which is displayed on the left. Was this another offering by Conte? Also, the church I found a couple of months ago had a separate wall section to it. I don't see it with this eBay offering. Was that an original piece with the set?

Ken,
Thanks for your response. I can certainly understand that you have a full
table at the moment. I do hope that somewhere down the line, not TOO FAR, there is enough positive response for another Church or something similar.
It would make a great centerpiece for any one's Diorama and gives one the room to expand around this piece.

I also seem to recall in some of the earlier Conte fliers, a extension piece for the Church. It looked to be an reversed L-shaped wall to add to the main portion of the Church.
Let's hope we can see this great piece again!!!!!! I'm sorry I missed the first go around.

The separate church wall was offered with the Priory set and it was meant to extend the side-wall of the church. You were lucky to get that with your church. If you look at the ONWTC website you can see the church I modified and extended using two of these sections along with the roof and trusses doubled in length. I also added many other details including 'frescos' on the walls.
In one of the Conte ads I know that we used the two story damaged French house that was offered in one of the earlier D-day playsets, so that might be the building you were looking at. Here is a picture I had taken right after I finished it.

This last image is of the painted church and the extra wall that came in the set with the Priory.
Hope this helps!

My thanks also Ken. I'll have to keep a look out for that other building. I was able to add the priory to my collection without the extra church wall. (Thank goodness I got it with the church), but did not receive the statues or the head stones with them. Oh well, will have to try my hand at fabrication. Thanks again. Looking forward to your offerings in the future. (near future I hope)

Ken,
Again, a note of thanks. Love those photo's. I was fortunate to obtain the Hold until relieved play-set. Those houses are great. The Church again is a great piece. Hopefully some spare time will come your way to recreate that wonderful set. Another great piece would be the Hotel from the longest Day.
The one that the Free French attacked. Anti-Tank gun on the bottom, machine guns on top. WOW. Now that would be a building. Again all the best.

Hey Ken!

With the buildings in the shelf dioramas, they are fantastic! My question is are you going to sell these building facades seperately from the diorama?

Thanks!
Vick

P.S. Love the New Upcoming W. Britain Releases

Hi There!
Yes, we will be releasing both full buildings and some facades. The one shown in the shelf diorama was a one of a kind master that I did not duplicate.

In the future I will be duplicating some of the more useful structures to build the edge of a small village in three different geographical areas of Europe.
The buildings and structures in the works will have additional details in various materials so the are 'ready to use' and well detailed.

In 1/32 to 1/30 scale it is necessary to either choose small prototypes or to selectively compress a structure to be useful in most folks display environments. The Conte structures were pretty close to full size for what they represented, and although I think we need more models like this, there is also a place for some smaller ones.
In the short term all of the products will be offered as finished models and completely patterned, fabricated and finished here in Michigan. Based on what I am seeing in the current marketplace we can keep the prices reasonable and in some cases, competitive.

I have not made a decision on offering unfinished structures to date, but I haven't completely ruled this out.
We will keep all of you posted here and please feel free to make suggestions for projects.
All the Best,
Ken

Can't wait for them Ken!!! I'm in the middle of completing my church out of pink insulation foam.

Purely speaking for myself, but it's the full size structures that I'd like to see, such as your Conte work. For big dios, you can only get away with so many smaller 'bits' of damaged buildings.

I look forward to whatever you turn out Ken.

Cheers

Hi Simon!
I wouldn't worry too much as one of the patterns that I am wrapping up will go perfectly with some of the buildings I patterned for Conte. It seems like you have managed to get most, if not all of the Conte structures already.
There are a couple of structures that show up so often in popular period images that they scream to be made and these are on my short list.
Because I am doing all of my manufacturing here in the states I will have small runs but I probably won't 'strictly limit' anything. What will probably happen is that each one will be finished slightly different than another...like different wallpaper or roof ect.
We should have a few offerings soon.
Ken

That's great to hear Ken.
As you say, I'm fortunate enough to have bagged most of the Conte WWII buildings and bridge etc.
Would like to get a second 'wall' for the church mind.

Ken,

Can't wait, and happy to hear the upcoming glider troops will have some shelter from the weather...

That conte playset #6, the church, mentioned before on eBay just went for $423.88. I guess people are willing to pay a good price for the larger buildings. Can't wait to see what you and Ericka bring to the table Ken
