As most of you may realize, I have a fondness for the Woodland Indian releases.

I have come to realize that the Highlanders offer a near perfect match for an ambush diorama ---- vs the woodland indian releases (particularly, the new Ticonderoga figures advancing through the abatis as well as some of the earlier Fraser's figures). The quality of these figures is so much better than the earlier ranger releases.

These Highlanders are perfect to represent a patrol moving through the woods. With the figures we now have, the diorama can depict the ambush either just before the trap is sprung or after with the British returning fire. My preference is for before.

The BoM figures aren't as "scout" friendly as these Ticonderoga pieces are.

Hi Fraxinus, That's an idea I had too . And I also thought to put the new french officer with the indians and some "english indians" as chief Scarouyadi with the highlanders. I wonder if I would place too the captives in one party that the other
of course had as aim to free them .So I hope that John will make new indians for the both sides ( I read that the english ones had red linen at the top of their gun)

after reading your post on the French/Indian ambushes after Abercrombie left Carillion...I have to agree...these figures work really good for dioramas of that nature...

Ken, you excite my imagination.
I'd like to see an Indian Scout realized by John kneeling to examine the tracks on the ground (similar to the Griffing picture and sculpted years ago by Frontline).
Concerning the ambush I enclose one nice b/w drawing made by an italian illustrator, Sergio Toppi, found in a prettyINDIAN AND GRENADIER copia.JPG old book on the FIW named 'guerra di frontiera' (frontier war), one of the few italian books about this matter.
You can see an Indian warrior attacking a thirsty Highland Grenadier.
