And now,for something completely anachronistic...I should know better :rolleyes:
some survival instinct should supply restraint :p
winning Garibaldi sets on eBay as the lone bidder should tell me something....
happily,I'm quite mad :D so I'm offering this sample of my cheerfully abominable picturetaking.

I suppose these'll be way too TOY for many-assuredly digustabus non disputandem est,and I enjoy having these jaunty little fellas around:).ob

You are a child after my own heart. I love the look of these figures. I am most tempted when glossy toy soldiers actually look like "toy soldiers"...Michael

:eek::) Thank You,Michael.I regard that as a complement of the very highest order,I am humbled.Best,John

Could this unit pass for F.I.W. or an earlier period? Michael

Thank You theBritFarmer & Andanna,I'm delighted you enjoy them.
While my understanding is that a range of figures intended to represent the Battle of Bush(e)y Run (1769?) during Pontiac's "Rebellion" was released, Garibaldi -clearly also covered the Plains of Abraham.I am not(by any stretch) a uniformologist :) but Michael's insightful "earlier period" is likely closest the mark,though certainly contradictory elements are evident ;
The Piper's Pipes-2 drones (both tenor ?) & St. George's Cross Pipebanner hint at the Independent Companies (pre 1739) & might pass for F&IW .
I regret being unable to recall exactly when the distinction of Royal Stewart tartan was awarded Pipers of the B.W. but lean toward believing that it postdated the more ancient "great kilt"
The sgian dhu (dubh) ? these are the only figures I own sporting the black knives,seems whimsical :D pleasingly so...
Facings . An actual Scholarly Authority (Ken Osen ) addresses this in another thread , this colour predates Royal Regt. award .
:) :confused::rolleyes:;)

Well OB you have done it again. This set is so charming that a Bengal tiger would likely turn in his teeth and claws to own it. You are whetting our appetites for more of your wonderful glossy collection and invoking fond childhood memories of playing on the floor. Here are the early 18th C plates from the Osprey volume on the Black Watch

:D:D:D Randy,I don't know precisely what it is about ("Hanoverian")pipers clad in Royal Stewart in 1745 ! that I can't grasp :p But there he is a piper of the 42cnd ,great kilt and Royal Stewart :eek::D Thank You for the colour plate;I'd been musing over various engravings,thinking,now if I were PolarBear I'd have these scanned and posted in a jiffy :D
I've just been up at the WB zone,where I viewed one of the most beautiful postings ,absolutely breathtaking both the painterly version and the original & in view of your masterful artistry,I am again,Humbled.Hopefully this humbling process won't be taking too many lifetimes :D
You've all been so very kind,I'm offering a couple shots of the first Garibaldi set I acquired , the hand lettered label reads,I believe..
"F7 ARTILLERIE,COMPAGNIE FRANCIE DE LA MARINE "

Your photos are excellent and make your figures very appealing to us glossy fans. I see in the US Brunton's Barracks is listed for selling Garibaldi sets

Are Garibaldi's still being made? I see that Wm. Hocker has them listed on his site.

Those faces on the Garibaldi figures bring to mind one of my favorite puppets: Kukla of Kukla, Fran & Ollie with his round head, red cheeks and circular red mouth.

Ugh, I used to have nightmares about those people and that one toothed snake

Well er...if I can just manage to stop laughing long enough to post...:D
Ed Poole at Commandant has a number of sets presently available as well as a really tasty Quartermaster Corps Gatling set etc. . I don't know whether Garibaldi is still producing. John

Garibaldi & Co. Toy Soldiers don't show up on eBay very often, but I just saw five sets offered today, none of which I had seen before. This is set A1A Austrian Infantry 1859. The seller is asking about $100 for this set.

Hi Guys,

The whole Kukla Fran and Ollie thing made me laugh. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. As for the Garibaldi sets I have a couple of them and will say that I enjoy them a great deal! Also agree with Mike that they aren't on ebay a lot. So if the ones up fit with your collection you should go for it.

Dave

Although I don't personally collect Garibaldi (they are too toy-like for me), I am always interested in posting photos of less well know manufacturers on the forum for historical reasons. However, I really like the 1859 Austrian uniforms and will special order them from Hiriart at a future date. If anyone is interested in finding these Garibaldi sets on eBay you have to search for Garabaldi.
