Greetings:
This is a diorama I made for the John Jenkins Designs Gee Bee Z model. The Gee Bee is one of John's more unique plane models and as a civilian airplane, a bit more difficult to place in a diorama. As a reminder, I wrote a review of this model in the latest edition of the aviation newsletter I write and publish. I hope if you haven't already you will check it out at this link: https://heyzine.com/flip-book/bff99c0db5.html
About this diorama:
-Accessories are from John Jenkins Designs with a few others from Thomas Gunn. I repainted the tail skid dolly to a more civilian color.
-Figures are John Jenkins Designs. The figure standing next to the Gee Bee is Frank Tinker from the Spanish I-16 set. If you look at any historical photos of Lowell Bayles the Gee Bee Z pilot, he looks very similar in appearance and flight gear to this figure. The Mack Truck driver is standing in as a mechanic figure and I might add one more of these guys to the diorama at some point. If I ever find the Photographer figure, he will be taking Bayles picture in this scene.
-The scoring pylon I made from blocks of wood. Historical photos show a couple different styles of these. Some had platforms on the tops for pylon judges to climb up, some did not. The style I chose is a combination of both styles. The checkered pattern on the pylon is checkered pattern cardstock paper cut to fit the sides. The flag on the top is a cupcake topper! The pylons often had fencing around them to serve as an additional visual marker and to keep people from being too close/interferring with the pylons.
-Base is a Coastal Kits base. The grass dirt surface worked well here.
Thanks for looking and please check out my review/article about the Gee Bee model at the link if you haven't already. I would greatly appreciate it!
Regards,
Corey
