I own a fair amount of Zulu/Sudan Hocker/Wessex sets. I already know that Hiriart foot soldiers are a near perfect match for Hockers'. But how would Hiriart mounted sets compare? Their horses look similar in style to Dorset and even early Britain's....If collectors have comparison photos, I would appreciate it. Been wanting to fill in missing units, but wanted to make sure if mixing would look OK...Michael

Michael,

I don't have any Dorset, Wessex, or early Britains sets to photographically compare them with Hiriart for you. However, Damian and I each have nine Hiriart British cavalry sets coming in about two months on the next order and maybe he has some sets in his existing collection where he do the comparison for you. My general opinion though, is that they would be a very good match, even better than the Hocker figures which are more toy-like than Hiriart.

Michael,

Attached are some pictures for comparison of Hiriart and Hocker mounted sets. I do not have any Dorset or Wessex mounted sets. My Hocker sets are mostly from the Sudan and Northwest Frontier series so I've used the Hocker 2nd Punjab Lancers and 21st Lancers for reference. Since you collect Zulu sets, I've included pictures of the new Hiriart Natal Carabineers and Mounted Infantry. The second picture is a Hiriart Hussars Sudan set with the 21st Lancers. The third is of the Punjab Lancers with a more recent version of the Hiriart Guides. These should give you some sense of the compatibility of similar sets.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Another post will follow...

Kind regards.

John

Michael,

Attached are pictures of the Hocker Kohat Camel Battery and the Hiriart 1885 Camel Battery for comparison. I've also included closeups of the walking figures from both sets and the Hocker set with one of Hiriarts mounted camel sets. The camels in the mounted set appear slightly fuller and larger than the Hocker version.

I hope you like the pictures. Please let me know if youhave any questions.

Kind regards.

John

Sorry to say, but no there are not. My 2013 and 2014 Hiriart orders are closed out at 120 sets each and there isn't a single resale set among them. Besides the Natal Carabineers, what else are you looking for?
