This set arrived yesterday and I am very impressed. The sandbags look great and the amount of stowage is massive. The figures are really nice, especially Patton, who looks mighty PO'd!

That is a great set - one of my all time favourites. And Patton is po'd because the tanks were not allowed to be sandbagged for extra protection because the extra weight caused extra wear on the engine, transmission and tracks plus used more gasoline. Any model with Patton is special these days as it has become very expensive to license the rights from the Patton estate to use his name and image.

The general is not identified as Patton although he does bear a resemblance to him because when K & C did DD 22, the Patton Command Car, the Estate brought a claim against K & C, which ultimately was resolved. I don't believe (but am not sure) whether all states have a uniform approach to allowing heirs to bring claims for use of a deceased person's likeness. I know a few years ago NY was considering a bill to permit this but I don't know if it became law.

Great set and congrats for obtaining it. When you compare it pricewise to sets today, it is really a super bargain.

Congratulations, it is a fantastic set, I would like to obtain this set oneday.

Yep, Definitely the set is a Wow!!,This particular one was the one that I knew I was hooked, A Sandbagged 76mm Sherman arguably the best King And Country sherman. With 7 figures, including a General. Definitely the BEst deal out there)
And My most treasured King and country piece, (second would be the Tunisian Tiger). So I am happy for you, for you picked a great piece!!

Brad,

Do you know what is the K&C practice after the DD022 case? Does K&C now routinely obtain written permission from either the person (if alive) or his family (if deceased) before making and selling a figure of a wartime personality?

Kindly, Raymond.

Raymond,

I don't believe so.

I also think that the sales generated by toy soldiers are not enough for most estates to care about. I don't know if Apple would have cared about the Beatles set but I believe had they known, they may have sued.

Brad,

Yes, I didn't think so. The Patton case must have quite unique.

As for Apple, I reckon that they would have had enough by now.

Raymond.

I don't know about that Raymond. I think Apple is quite zealous about protecting the lads' reputation and finances.

There is an excellent picture of Patton storming away from the Sherman and its crew,he really looks like he's going to explode in anger.Tried to find it and post it but no luck.

I think this is one of the best shermans k+c has done and cant believe it didnt sell well
Regards Scott

It seems to be going strong now. I wish the Hellcat and Stug IV suffered the same lack of interest!

Rob,

I have the picture and the model of it. It's a realy great model. Surpriced to see that K&C made probably used this foto to make the SL.

regards.

What probably added to the general's bad mood is that this tank appears to be from the 14th Armored Division (and the SL model is so marked). 14th Armored was a Seventh Army outfit, not generally bound by the rules of Patton's Third Army. The 14th Armored had a division level program to add the sandbags in the steel frames all around the hull and turret. In fact many, many of the photos of the "full" sets of sandbags are Seventh Army units. Some First Army units had extensive sandbags, and the Ninth Army's 2nd Armored had quite a system.
