Since I have been recent bitten by the gloss old style toy soldier bug, I have made a number of purchase mistakes thinking that certain mfg. should all size up to each other. Britains, Marlboroughs, Wessex, Dorset, William Hocker and who ever else might be available. Those members, that might have some of these mfg. how do they match up in style and fit ? Michael

Hi Michael,

That is a good question and I can answer it for a few different makers. The Britains and Marlborough go well size and paint quality are comparable. I think my Imperial sets look a little different than the Marlborough and Britians sets. The paint is excellent on them but when shown together I can see a difference. I will post a picture of 4 different maker so you can take a look.

All the best

Dave, which is which mfg.? Michael

Hi Michael,

Sorry I was late to get the kids for school. from Left to Right The Uhlan is by Fusilier, the nest one is Thr Royal Herald from Britains Durbar set, Lord Kitchener is by Marlborough and the final fellow is a Light Horseman by Imperial.

Hope this helps.

All the best

Dave

The old Britains (pre-1965), William Hocker and Imperial are "traditional" toy soldier size, which is 54mm from feet to top of the head or headgear. This makes them smaller when compared to Britains' more recent figures which are 54mm from feet to eye level. I am not sure about Marboroughs, Wessex and Dorset figures.:)
