Interesting little dio, certainly on a very controversial topic. Politics, ethics, and morality of the bombing campaigns aside, I wonder if K&C intend to release German home front figures like they did for the Blitz in Britain? I am not too familiar with the German air defence and civil defence system, but I'd imagine by the end of the war it was pushed to its limits.
Cheers,
Brendan
Thank you. I didn' t mean to make a dio for political reasons, even less for ethical ones! And everybody knows that german cities were destroyed, as well as many other european cities. But simply because I like german uniforms. Since I was a child I was more interested in german uniforms and german tanks even without knowing history yet...I find wierd that some people feel a dio controversial! And what about the nazi parades? {sm4}
I totally understand - there is no denying that German uniforms and equipment were good looking and well executed..
However given the history, there's no doubt that displaying these publically would bring on negative reaction. It's not at all "weird"; it's normal and you could bet on it.
My family was decimated by the Nazi's and there's an emotional reaction on seeing them represented which I cannot control.
Display publically what??? This forum is full of dioramas showing the german army:whermacht, waffen ss, many showing SS and SA in parade, Hitler, Himmler, Goering....What are you talking about? In my scene an officer walking and a fireman directing the traffic...What' s the problem for you, I am really curious to know...
These are not politics , these are toy soldiers and in a war there are always two sides at least. So displaying both of them in a diorama is nothing extraordinary
A German bombed city has certainly nothing to do with Nazi glorification ????? . Wait till you will see my "SA parade" diorama later this year. Before you give any comments: My whole family lived under 5 years of German occupation, my father spend a couple of years in a concentration camp ( Poland) and so did my father in law and my uncle ,who by the way did not return. This will not stop me enjoying my hobby and playing with toy soldiers and making dioramas. I only get upset when I see real Neo Nazi's walk the streets , that is something to get upset about not toy soldiers

No, of course a bombed German City is NOT Nazi glorification.. I wish you enjoy whatever you like.
Seems your family background is in some ways similar to my own. Happens that as a child I lived in a bombed German city - I still can remember blocks & blocks of rubble.
The difference between us is that based on my life experience, I could never own "SA Parade" figures.
Having said that, I love German food, beer and cars..
Poppo,
the bombed house is a great effort ; I personally would add some more dirt on the facade of the building and certainly more rubble and dust in the street. It now looks as if the pavement has been sweeped clean. When you look at pictures of bombed cities in Germany you will see that rubble was piled up on both sides of the streets. What story does it tell ?? It lacks a bit of action. You know detail, detail and more detail that's what a diorama is all about . Of course this is only my personal point of view.

While I did not see the deleted comments, I think Guy and Bessieres really hit the nail on the head.
As a member of a younger generation (it was my grandparents and their siblings who were in camps/fought the Nazis), these topics are still sensitive for me. While I would never make a German parade diorama without some hint of anti-Nazi sentiment in it (like a resistance sniper in a window), I am personally fine with others doing it.
I think I know when someone is actually a neo-Nazi or an antisimite, and people on this site generally are not either.
Poppo- great diorama! My one suggestion would be to print out a picture of a bombed street, glue it to a piece of foam core, and use it as a background.
