Wayne,
GOMA been in the news a lot today. Appears the previous State Govt have spent $1 million on a statue
made by a Kiwi which is of a mouse/rat with a large upside down Elephant. Will go on display next
month and was commissioned after the floods. Lots of people questioning if a good use of a cool
million.

After a hour or so wandering around the gallery the above sounds almost normal compared to some of the so called art on display.....{sm4}

Wayne,

I'm always interested in Artillery, especailly Memorial Guns

I have set up a website of 'Guns of Western Australia' where I have images of all the pieces that i see on my travels, and what other people submit to me.

http://members.upnaway.com/~obees/soldiers/guns_of_wa/

A similar gun to the one you showed is in Moora, about 100km north of Perth.

It ia a Turkish Krupp 75mm and was captured by 10th Lighthorse Regt in Palestine in 1918

Here is a field gun at the front of the Brisbane Grammar School. I have never taught at the College but have been there on business a few times. The information is not mine but is from the great god of the internet.

A rare and significant barrel transport vehicle (Rohrhinterwagen) for a 10.4cm Skoda M1915 field gun. Mounted on a concrete and stone plinth, it resides at the entrance to the Brisbane Grammar School Great Hall, with bronze plaque mounted below the front. A second small metal plaque low on the northern side states that the gun was returned to its present site in 1996 after refurbishment by members of the South Queensland Logistics Group
Inscription: This gun (with 8,107 Turks and Germans) was captured at Jenin, Palestine, on 20th September, 1918, by Brigadier-General L.C. Wilson, C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., CROIX DE G., 3rd Light Horse Brigade, A.I.F.. an “old boy” of this school.

Although 'field gun' like in appearance, the original field gun was too heavy for a standard 6 horse team to pull over any distance. The barrel was detached and carried on its own vehicle. A formation that can be seen in the images on this web-site. There is also no recoil or recuperator assembly under the barrel and no elevation/traverse gear that would be expected on a gun. The transport vehicle at Brisbane Grammar is a unique piece since it's the only surviving Rohrhinterwagen with a Skoda barrel in the world. There is another one at the Brussels Army Museum (Musee Royale de l' Armee), but that one carries a 15cm howitzer barrel. The barrel transport vehicles for the two guns were virtually identical.
