Did the Afrika Korps use the Maultier? I thought they mostly went to the Russian front.

The SS field recovery and maintenance units operating in Russia put together the first "Maultiers" in 1942 made out of Ford trucks and captured Soviet Carden Lloyd light tanks running gear. It worked so well they decided to use Opel Blitz trucks and more of the captured running gears to produce the Opel Maultiers at the Opel factory. Some of the Maultiers ended up with the Afrika Korps.
