I watched, a couple of weeks ago, a very interesting documentary on Geronimo; this man was the last indian to resist and fight the whites. He lost part of his family when still young and spent the rest of his life in the will to revenge. He attacked the mexican towns, then the US farmers and pioneers, was caught many times, and many times escaped with warriors from the reservation in which he was put. He became the N° one enemy when all the tribes had already accepted the rule of the white man.
But when was old and finally surrendered, he became the symbol of the fronteer for all americans, the nostalgia of the good old times transformed him from an enemy to one of the american symbols, even if was not allowed to return back to his land where he was still hated as he killed a lot of farmers, men, women, children...
Geronimo is still a controversial man: great orator or manipulator of his own people;a great warrior or an egocentric ready to sacrifice his own men, women, and children to keep on his own war against the white man.
That is why today, he is not a hero for native americans.
