There are a couple of major historical anniversaries coming up this week. Tuesday is the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. They have an annual commemoration in the National Cemetery. This year historian James McPherson is the speaker.

Friday is the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination in Texas. They are having a number of events including one in Dealey Plaza. CSPAN is covering the JFK events including programs on the assassination over the weekend. Interestingly if JFK had attended the 100th anniversary of the Gettysburg address on Nov. 19, 1963 it might have impacted the timing of his trip to Texas. If he drives by the Texas School Book Depository on Saturday, Nov. 23 instead of Friday, Nov. 22 the building would have been closed and Oswald wouldn't have been at work that day. JFK also came to Gettysburg a few months before his assassination. He drove himself and Jackie around the battlefield with a tour guide more or less like any other tourist. With the top down on the car.
