Did you folks catchit and if so how do you think the history channel did.

in my personal opinion i thought it was excellent!

I didn't see all of it but Not bad, I like the graphic maps. Did I miss something though?
Is there a part TWO? It ended without Grant and Lee ever facing each other?
Grants victory at Vicksburg and Lee's defeat at Gettysburg, Lee surrenders to Grant-- the end.
??? That did suck.

There was a thread about it in the movie section..Most of us killed it.........Michael

BAD!!!!! Very Bad!!!! A historian or two could have made it great...... At least this time, as in, The Story Of Us, the Confederates were not carrying flintlocks!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite part was the Confederate wearing a great coat in Picket's charge. You know us dumb rebs always wear big heavy coats in the middle of the summer during a battle!!!!

Basically they went down to the local Halloween costume shop and got the costumes!!!

As Michael said, check out the other thread. Bad isn't a strong enough word.:wink2::rolleyes2: -- Al

Seems to be some kind of ACW conspiracy going on here in the Historical discussion threads as it seems like that is all that is discussed anymore.

As Bart Simpson once said, "I didn't think it was possible for something to both suck and blow at the same time". Seriously, I didn't hate it, but was disappointed in the uniforms, The crossed rifles on the Hardee hats instead of the bugle for example. It just left a bad taste in my mouth and tilted my view towards the negative for the rest of the show.

How' bout those white haversacks?

The actress who played Fannie Bueller was pretty.

Sorry, I was posting about the GRANT and LEE .
Yes Gettysburg was the worst as we have all already commented on.

Sure were. As a kid, more decades ago than I will admit to, Saturday afternoons were dominated (for me, anyway) by the TV matinee called "Battleground", which was an afternoon of whatever war movies were shown. Started at noonish and ran all afternoon. Great shows, great days, and great memories. Where has all the good war programming been hidden? :rolleyes2:{sm2} -- Al

Someone told me recently that Ted Turner paid to have all the power lines buried underneath the ground in the area of Pickett's charge. Then someone discovered, or claimed, that there were actually telegraph wires strung in the same location at the time of battle. So the historical accuracy battles inch along.

The "early" days of cable had a station that played the industrial corporation promotional films for various weapons and aircraft. Like military porn.
