George mate,
Great displays cobber. You are a very patience man to continue to set up and put away all these displays at each show.
How much for the "Please Do Not Touch" sign ?????????
Cheers Howard

Thanks for the kind words; I love doing the shows, always try to outdo my last displays, so patience is not really an issue.

Besides, these were the "before" pictures; the after pictures had about 1/3rd of the display items still remaining, so the take down time is much less than the set up time.

Boy, you lads from down under really have a thing for my "do not touch" signs; they are actually K & C versions that they were kind enough to supply to me, I was going to make my own professional versions that read "Please do not touch/steal/pick up, drop and break the figures and not offer to pay", but the K & C versions are so much nicer......................

Don't worry, I am a cobber, but it is not catchy...........actually, it is an Australian term for friend, pal, buddy, etc, and truth be told, I consider Howard a cobber of mine as well, he's a great guy, you're a cobber of mine too, see how this works......................

Very nice Warrior.

I have a couple of questions for you.
1. I went to the Valley Forge/Gettysburg Show many years ago and then, a few years ago, there was the confusion of two different shows and/or the moving of the show. What happened?
2. How was the show? Many people? Were they buying?

Thanks for the positive feedback Russell. What happened was the Valley Forge Show moved to Delaware three years ago, I liked the facility and did very well there for two years; at the same time a new show was started in Gettysburg the same weekend, the VF show was Fri/Sat, the Gettysburg show was Sunday.

Several dealers made a big deal out of the Gettysburg show and how it took business away from VF; I attended both shows and did very well at both, really didn't see what the big deal was.

This past year, the VF show moved back to VF from Delaware and the Gettysburg show was moved to a different weekend.

The same dealers who complained about the two shows being on the same weekend also complained that VF was not very good this past year.

I did great at both, so go figure.............

Hi, Russell, I need to offer a disambiguation on point #1.

The "Valley Forge show", as it's commonly called, is formally known as the Miniature Figure Collectors of America' Show and Mart. Prior to being held at the Valley Forge Convention Center (whose address is actually King of Prussia) starting in 1990, it was held at Villanova University for a couple of years, and before that, at Widener University, for perhaps 20 years. It is not related to the Gettysburg Toy Soldier show in any way.

The Gettysburg Toy Soldier show was begun by John Stengel, the Marx Man, and some other partners, if I'm not mistaken. In its first year, it was held on the Sunday of the weekend on which the MFCA show was held. In succeeding years, the two shows have been held with more of an interval. There's no active coordination, however, between our club and the organizers of the Gettysburg show; we follow our own schedules, contracts, etc.

The recent show held is Gettysburg is actually not a toy soldier show, as we would normally call it, such as the Chicago (Schaumburg) show run by the former publisher of "Old Toy Soldier", or Bill Lango's East Coast Toy Soldier Show (popularly known as the Hackensack show). This past show was actually an exhibition and dealer mart, staged by the Artist Preservation Group, whose purpose is to further the hobby of military miniatures and to raise money to restore and preserve American military artifacts. This was the second show that the APG held; both were held in Gettysburg, but the next show is planned for 2012, if I remember correctly, and the plan is also to hold it in Virginia, near one of the battlefields there, such as Fredericksburg.

George, I hope you won't mind that I've added this clarification, and I apologize in advance if I've erred in the details of the other shows. But I feel obliged to clarify with respect to our, ie, the MFCAs, event, as a member of the show committee.

Prost!
Brad

Ah, sorry, George, I was a couple minutes behind you in posting, sorry for butting in!

Ah, sorry, George, I was a couple minutes behind you in posting, sorry for butting in!

No worries, you did a better job of splainin the situation that I did.

Fact of the matter is all three shows are excellent, as a matter of fact, there is not a show I've attended in the past twelve years that I would classify as a bad show, they are all unique and have their merits and I encourage anyone who is close to a show to go and check it out, you will not be disappointed, the organizers, volunteers and dealers all work hard to bring you folks the best toy soldier experience possible..............

George mate,
You guys get it so great over there. Show after show after show. How about bringing one down to the Land of Oz. Doesn't have to be that big. Just a small one in Brisbane and you would have blokes travelling from all over to attend. I am sure Oz, Simmo, Wayne and I could organize a few free beers for you. All worldwide Treefrogers would be welcome.
The hospitality in Australia is first rate. Ask Andy.
Cheers Howard

Warrior and Brad,
Thank you both for taking the time with your replies. I live in Montreal and went once to the Valley Forge/King of Prussia Show in the late 90s and enjoyed it. My wife and daughter loved the shopping in the nearby malls.

Last year I also went to the Chicago Show which I enjoyed especially for meeting fellow Treefroggers, for the K & C dinner, and for the beautiful displays by the major makers.

But my most successful show has been the Hackensack Show. This is where I've been able to get my happiest deals. And of course, it's the closest for me.:)

Russell,
You are welcome; glad to see you are attending OTSN, Hackensack and Valley Forge, which are my first, second and third best shows, you've got your bases covered for sure with those three............

Hi, Russell, thanks for reminding me, I need to remember to take my forum badge along to the shows, so I can meet you and other Treefroggers I haven't yet met in person.

Prost!
Brad

It's gonna be rough Brad, because if you don't look like the guy below, it, it, it just won't be you.:p

Thanks Scott, I like the way they work together in a scene to tell a story..........

George, it looks like a great display. Sorry I missed it.

Do they have a bartender named Lloyd at the Wyndham?

Lloyd: How are things going, Mr. Torrance?
Jack Torrance: Things could be better, Lloyd. Things could be a whole lot better.
