Hi all, new to this neck of the woods, but I have always admired glossy toy soldiers from afar as they seem to be the throw back to the original toy soldier, soooo.., if I were to do a small display of WWI or WWII what brands would you say are the best for your buck?? not looking to break the bank but looking for a nice display to put on a shelf in my curio, any help would be appreciated...Sammy

Fusilier has a nice WW I range.

The Premier items are nice but since they're retired they can be expensive.

Thanks for all the information and suggestions, all in all I think I would like to go for a WWI marching set of some sort, that has always caught caught my eye, once I get enough of my band together I'll post some photos.

Beau Geste makes some wonderful bands.

PS: After I posted the above, I looked at some of the BG bands on TF and there are offerings of a variety enough to appeal to any interest, in my humble opinion.

Something like this? Eighteen sets of World War I Germans, French, Americans, Austro-Hungarians, Italians, Turks, Australians, Belgians, Scots, and British.

Hi Sammy,

For a few WWI glossy sets, I would definitely browse the Beau Geste section of the Treefrog web store.
They are beautiful figures and they have many varieties for all nations.
My second choice would be, trying to find Britains Premier sets.

But keep in mind, be careful what you ask for. ^&grin

Good glossy Toy Soldiers are most charming, and after receiving the first few, you might find yourself in a situation where you think about the next opportunity to find more :wink2:

More World War I belligerents in their early war 1914 uniforms from Greece, Montenegro, Serbia, and Romania.

Some great displays Mike, only wish I had the coin and space for a display like that, but just looking to have a small parade of glossy WWI sets that I can add to my collection.

Plenty of good info from the fellas on the froum, so here is my first choice Glossy piece!!!! I like the prices of the British Toy Soldier Co. as well as the variety, so placed my BTS69 order with Julie today on a standing order, like the bag pipes and the selection of 3 various poses of this one piece, looking forward to seeing where my little collection of Glossy will be in a few years...Sammy

I don't think any one has mentioned Regal / Soldiers of the World yet. They have a great number WWI glossy sets. - All beautifully painted.

Maybe they will end up looking something like this Sammy. These are my Highland Light Infantry Band ( or more correctly, bands - as there are three Bands here. The Drum & Pipe band, Drum & Bugle Band - followed by the full Regimental Band).

These came as castings from Dorset Soldiers - and can still be found there - either painted or unpainted. Mine came unpainted - and I painted them up myself.

So.......this may be another option for you Sammy. I hope you'll agree - with glossies - the more there are - the better they look. jb

Great looking display JB, and you are right there is something about a shelf full of Glossy marching, parades etc. sadly my painting skills stop when I open the lid to a bottle of paint!!!:) I can do small stuff like a helmet, table, chair type but real good detail such as yours is near impossible on my end, big hands, and left handed to boot!! but thanks for the info and again, great display!!
