Alas, not for the toy soldier show but sometime in June. Will probably stop in at King's X. Do they sell figures there not otherwise available? I thought I saw John Wayne or something along those lines. Any other recommendations are welcome - mexican food, drink, heat stroke. All good possibilities?

Combat mate,
You have to have a beer or three at the British Mad Dog Bar which is along the Riverwalk.^&grin Great little Pub:smile2: Love that town.
Cheers from the Land Downunder, Howard

PS And Kings X do sell a great range of K&C KX figures.

Doug...

first off...it's gonna be hot when you go...dress cool...

stay on the Riverwalk...

Menger is okay...but the rooms are very dated...

I usually stay at the Holiday Inn on the Riverwalk...much more contemporary...about $150 a night...

I am staying at the Menger for the show...

most hotels charge $20-$25 for parking...

the Riverwalk is central to everything...lots of restaurants (bbq and Mexican is the fare of choice)...

the Alamo is a must see...

Phil Collin's diorama is cool...

the Riverwalk stroll and boat rides are cool...

El Mercado (flea market)...Mi Tierra Restaurant and Panaderia (open 24 hours)...La Margarita Restaurant...great Mexican breakfasts...my favorites when visiting...

and of course KingsX...yes...they do have exclusive figures...but I think they are collector club or repeat customer offers...

there is a Morton's next door to the Menger...and also the Rivercenter Mall...

this city has a lot to offer...

call me if you got any questions...

Hi,
Unfortunately I won't be there for the show (sorry if that was unclear). It seems all the major TS shows are in conflict with school or major reenactments.... Darn:(. By the way- I love that Sudan diorama- esp. the Fuzzies in the back. What did you use to coat the building? I am working on a similar building right now, and it is made of a wood box, which I cut holes in, covered with plaster, am sanding, and then painting. The roof is simply the lid of the box with those logs attached on the side.

I read in the Osprey book that the set used for John Wayne's Alamo is somewhere near SA. And gives a better idea of what it looked like than the remains of the real thing.

thanks...I used Stucco Patch...available at home Depot...$6...enough for about 4 buildings that size...dries very hard...won't chip off..apply with a small spatula or putty trowel...

I attended the show last year. One word for San Antonio, HOT, HOT, HOT!
I,m from St Louis where it does get hot and humid but that was African Hot.

Do you then paint it, or is the colour of the putty sand-like?

Anything to do in Dallas? I'm also there for a couple of days. Have to go to the Texas School Book Depository! Last time I was there was about 25 years ago.

Nice trip to San Antonio and Dallas. Hot, hot and hot. Good food. Visited King's X shop and met Martin. Lunch at the Mad Dog Bar! Menger Bar! Highlight for me in Dallas was visiting the Sixth Floor Museum in the Texas School Book Depository. That place and Dealey Plaza are surreal. Almost frozen in time like a movie set. What most surprised me is how short distance was between Kennedy and Oswald. To believe the conspiracy theorists it was a difficult shot, but anyone could have made it. Also, it was clear Oswald gave some thought as to where to shoot from. A clear angle from that window and he also could situate himself into the corner of the building out of sight from the window.

Your correct about the book depository, that was the first thing I thought as well, you could hit him with a football...

Interesting note about the corner window being picked so as to stay out of sight from the street. I've read about and studied the assassination almost since it occurred, and that is the first time I have ever heard this brought up. Kind of points to Oswald's military training. It is something only a veteran shooter would think of, like a hunter in a blind. Great observation, sir. -- Al
