Unfortunately a lot of the categories I have not seen those nominated but points of interest (to me) are :

The Martian and Matt Damon nominated in Comedy category which is not how I would categorise it.

Not seen it but isnt Idris Elba main star of Beasts of no nation ? Anybody seen it ? He is also nominated for Luther.

Not seen it but interesting to see The Revenant nominated for best Director and Drama and for DeCaprio. Starts early Jan in Oz.

Not seen any of the lead female actresses movies but would have liked to see Charlize Theron get something for Mad Max. Probably she will get something like Best Action female from something like MTV.

Game of Thrones or Narcos ? That would be a hard one for me to choose as liked them both.

Anybody seen Concussion as looks like would be a hit with US sports fans and see Will Smith got nominated for it.

Haven't seen the movie, but the book "The Martian" is certainly no comedy. It is a great adventure/survival story with a sense of humor, but it is no comedy. Beats me how the movie is categorized other than a drama, unless the film varies widely from the book. -- Al

Joy isn't what we really consider a comedy either.

I"ve read a few articles and the best I've come up with why the Hollywood Foreign Press puts them in the Comedy section is "because they can". How's that for an explanation from the reporters?!?! It seems it's an effort to get more films into the awards. Supposedly the studios lobby to get them in as comedy bc there is less competition.

I agree with you about the comedy category. Crack one joke in a drama that cant make it into the top 5 dramas and you become eligible for the comedy category{sm4}

Just looked up Joy and no doubt Americans have heard of the mop lady but I think it safe to say the rest of the world has not. Box office on that one going to be interesting. Opens on Christmas day so somebody must think it has appeal. I guess the females can be watching that while the guys are watching The Revenant{sm3}.

If you happen to see it, my niece is one of the ballroom dancers in the party scene!

Well I guess that means you will have no choice but to watch it^&grin

I have already filled my watching dance quota for the year after attending a 4 hour show to watch grand-daughters dance school show. Highlight was the four entertaining Dads doing ballet.
