Recieved the new British Stuart and well, it seems a little small for 1/30 scale, especially when stacked against the new K/C Sherman. I have also attached a ww2 era photo of the 2 side by side. Though photo quality not the best, you can still see the correct size ratio vs the K/C one..Michael

Figures and pics from Google.......There is a Stuart Tank in a small Army museum here in Perth.....I was curious about dimensions and checked them...the WW2 pic looks more realistic....regards TomB

Well something wrong as the figures are nearly as tall as the top of the turret on the Stuart :rolleyes2:

Michael is the Sherman true to scale and how does the Stuart compare to other KC Stuarts ?

Hi Michael

You may find the DD093 "Classic" Sherman that was released some years earlier (now retired) sizes up better to the new Stuart. The Easy Eight Sherman is a lot bigger and I think it's because it was a bigger tank or larger version than the original Sherman that was supplied to the Allies. I am not completely sure on this but Andy or someone else on the forum might be able to shed some light on this.

Would the firefly version of the Sherman be an old version or an updated remodel version of the Sherman chassis......I was amazed to learn they fitted an 17 pdr in a modified turret...I saw...what I was told to be a 17 pdr fired in an Inf/Tank ex in the early 60's...that gun fairly jumped when fired.....they must have done a bloody good job toneing it down to fire in a turret..... regards TomBSherman Firefly.jpg

All they done was add a box to the back of the turret of the Sherman in simple terms ,and in the Comet tank a modified 17 pounder gun was fitted

If you like it then don't hate yourself at all. I am not that big on scale or do I count rivets . I had a earlier one that I sold to one of the Brisbane boy's but I can't remember which one and it was cool but not as good as this one. Chris.:salute::

Got to say Chris I agree think it a great looking tank

Yeah Tom, the Sherman Firefly was a remarkable tank and for a while, the only Allied tank (except for the Ruskies) that was capable of taking on the Jerry Panthers and Tigers. I think I also read somewhere that the flash that the gun produced temporarily blinded the crew or perhaps I read that it gave the position of the tank away to the Jerries but in any event, it was a cracking gun.

The Firefly would also be another good example to size up against the Stuart.

I have the Normandy K/C version which was lower than this one ( I frankensteined it by adding FOV tracks to the K/C hull )and just a smidge shorter. My issue that folks seem to miss is that these tanks are advertised as 1/30 scale versions and should match up as such..I also have the CS version which turned out noticably oversized to even their own Sherman..As some are Sherman fans, I am a big Stuart nut, growing up with the whole comic " Haunted Tank " mythology. No have to hope that Figarti or Sam Gunn will do one proper..I will get my scale program out and offer measurements..Michael

Before jumping to conclusions, I think it is necessary to measure the models. Comparing a new model to an old one doesn't mean the old model was correct so if the new model is different, it isn't automatically wrong.

In this photo it looks like a Stuart is being compared to a standard suspension Sherman. Note the height of the front mud guards on both. and the overall height of both tanks. There is a small difference. Overall height of a Stuart was 257 cm vs 274 cm for a standard suspension Sherman. The difference is only 17 cm or 6.5".

In the photo of the models, a Stuart is compared to an Easy 8 with an HVSS suspension. The Easy 8 tank is 30 cm taller than a standard Sherman or almost a foot taller, mostly in the height of the suspension. The HVSS Sherman is 40 cm taller than the Stuart - look at the height of the front mud guards. The difference is much bigger than in the first photo.

So in your opinion, is the K/C Stuart close enough in correct size? Michael

It's hard to tell. I don't have the Easy 8 and don't yet have the new Stuart yet. But I think the sizes of the models look ok.

You have them both. Why not measure them in cm. Don't include any gun overhang or the storage bin on the back of the Stuart.
At 1:30 the Stuart should be 16 cm by 7.6cm by 8.6cm high vs a standard Sherman at 19.7cm by 8.7cm by 9.1cm high. The Easy 8 should be 9.9 cm high.

Compare a Stuart to a standard Sherman in this photo
