Can anyone out there recommend any good WWII tank books, stats, specs, battles, tanks aces, etc.? Com'on Binder, I know you know!:D

Thanks, Fred

Fred: I don't know if you have any Squadron Shop books or Concord armor books. Some have good detail. One book I read in library was called tank vs. tank. Gives insight how shermans took on panthers but did not see it in store. Books on the technical side probably have to be ordered. Squadron is kind of basic with mostly pictures. Leadmen

Hi Fred,

Here are a few books I have that are full of details and stats and good photos of all sorts of tanks.

British and American Tanks of WWII The complete illustrated history of British, American and Commonwealth tanks, 1939-1945 by Peter Chamberlain and Chris Ellis ISBN:0-668-04304-0

Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WWII, The complete illustrated directory of German battle tanks, Armoured Cars, SP Guns and semi tracked vehicles 1933-1945. By Peter Chamberlain and Hilary Doyle.
ISBN:1-85409-518-8

Tanks of the World 1915 -1945 By Peter Chamberlain and Chris Ellis.
ISBN: 0-304-36141-0

I have others if you want information on more modern tanks jsut let me know if you want Soviet or NATO/US or world wide.

These books are all good but if you want a lot of details on a specific vehicle then the way to go is the Osprey books.

Hope this helps

Dave

John and Dave, thank you for your help, a lot of good suggestions, I appreciate it. Right now the only tank book I have is "German Tanks of WWII" by George Forty, pretty good actually. A lot of nice info on the organization and training of panzer units, panzers I-IV, the panther, tiger and king tiger and a little on all the variants of each model and some excellent b&w photos. My wife picked it up on Amazon, she's a fairly tolerant and understanding person, maybe I'll keep her around for another 29 years.:D Thanks again for tips.

Hi Fred,

Hit up abe books site or ebay also you can usually for a lot of good books on ebay for a very decent price even if its coming from the UK. I have picked up a lot of good reference books that way.

All the best

Dave

I know, like and recommend Dave's two first recommendations ( excellent )and I would add « Russian Tanks of World War II, Stalin's Armoured Might» from Tim Bean and Will Fowler, Amber Books 2002, which I bought on Amazon UK.

Thanks once again, Dave and John, I'll certainly look into those books and sites you have recommended. It would appear that this Peter Chamberlain guy has cornered the market on tank books.:D And thanks to you VIARIATO, the Russian had some impressive armor, the T34 was a real shock to Germans and sent them back to the drawing boards.
