Guys, some weeks back Yesterday channel had a whole day of this series on famous tank engagements. I've only just sat down and started watching them and I just love this show! Whether its the Afrika Corp taking on the US at Kasserine, Russian Tanks ramming Germans during Operation Blue, or Brits and Canadians slogging through Normandy I'm totally hooked. But its this description of a Sherman and a Tiger going barrel to barrel through a hedge that is jaw dropping, as with all War docus its the actual statements of those that were there that are so moving and in many instances just make you in awe of the bravery of these guys and what they did for us, this is a classic example.;

Go to 33mins and hear this guys experience and wonder how on earth he is alive today

Funny you posted this Rob as I just watched this very same episode today here in the U.S. The sherman firing point blank into the German tank is amazing !!!

Very enjoyable, thanks for posting Rob. I am curious though that the 17 pounder armed Sherman Firefly was not mentioned? I thought these tanks saw action around Caen?

It really is isn't it PA. Quite chilling how he describes firing at point blank range into the Tiger, bang,bang, bang and then he pauses and says ' And then he fired back' {eek3}

Tom,

They were in action in Normandy but I guess the docu concentrated on the danger the ordinary Sherman faced against the Tiger and Panther, although the Panther was easily penetrated through its side armour by the Sherman.
