Greco Roman Column Ruins Diorama... (1 Viewer)

thank you guys for the nice comments...

I saw it too at the Texas show...that guy was asking about $79 for it...

but no...somebody showed them to me a long time ago on the Conte website...

I found mine on sale at Pet Smart for about $35...

I originally bought it for my Romans and Barbarians...and will do some pictures with them also in the future...

Mike, after your display here I have a feeling Pets Mart will be selling a lot of the displays now :rolleyes2:

you can make your own colums almost at no cost at all, the only things you need are a broomstick and a piece of corrugated cardboard ( the kind you find in a biscuit box) and the result is amazing . The top of the colum is modeled in milliput. I attach a picture.

Awesome peek into the Ancient Greek series. I really like them and am looking forward to seeing more including the Persians. I really can't get into another series but this one keeps beckoning me especially when I see great dioramas like this. ^&cool

It's a great backdrop for the Ancients series, Mike!

To your method and to Guy's method for columns, may I add my tip, that I use Wilton cake decorating columns. They're made to support tiers of a cake, like a wedding cake, but they're perfect for columns for Greek and Roman scenes, or also 18th century dios (when mania for all things Classical came into its own). They're styrene, so you can cut, glue and paint them with normal modeling tools and supplies.

Prost!

thank you all for the very nice comments...I really appreciate them...

Brad...

I looked at them a couple of weeks ago...they are pretty nice...and they have quite a variety on Ebay and also on their website...some very tall (13")...the only things I didn't like about them is that they are hollow, non tapered and pretty smooth...no weathering on them...but I think a talented modeler could weather them a bit if he wanted...still the smooth look is pretty nice...

I found a solid resin one...(7.25"s tall)...very similar to K&C's (AG08) weathered one's...I also found a solid non weathered resin one...I have resin and would like to make a mold from my Oomoo Silicone and cast about a dozen of them to build some "column pieces" for my figures...I think my Hirst Art's bricks will make a nice foundation and arched roof for them...it should be a fun project...
