Recently, the stock of plain old green armymen bags & blisters has all but disappeared in my area. My son is at that critical stage where he is blowing the soldiers up with fireworks and with a summer dishwashing job, is financing these experiments. He asked my wife to take him to store to buy some expendable troops but none could be found in Walmart or K-Mart, and they eventually only found one single bag at a Dollar store. My wife suspects they are not stocking soldiers by design and as a result of anti-war sentiments.

I know they are still readily available on the web, but was curious if anyone else has noticed a reduction or elimination of Green Armymen (GAMS) in the big department stores ? I remember this happening once before in my lifetime in the early 70's. Alls you could find was dayglow colored timmee GI's. It has been widely been believed by collectors that, that near extinqtion was due to anti vietnam-war sentiment.

Andy is buying them up so you have to let your son blow up old K and C figures

Thanks Damien, but I am a neb here and do not know who Andy is. I do not know if blowing up old Kentucky Fried Chicken 'Happy Meal' type toys would be much fun honestly. I thought they only had things like little Frizbee's, finger puppets & coloring booklets. You know, I have often wished the Fast Food chains wood come out with soldier series. I would be like buying 12 happy meals each week. It would be so cool. But I do not think that has much chance of happening.

I see them in Walgreens all the time, don't know if they have Walgreens where you are, so this may not be much help.

I am not sure about that, I do not remember seeing one. Should be easy to find out though.

Thanks

They still sell em in Toys R Us- If I remember correctly, you said you were in Easton or somewhere in the Lehigh Valley- might need to take a trip to Wilkes Barre- or- go visit Mike over at Stockade in Stroudsburg. I was there once with my family. My son, who was 6 or 7 at the time said "Dad, what can I get for this?" he takes out a dime. I scoffed "Nothing" Mike comes around and hands pulls out a bucket with green plastic army guys and says "Here, grab 10" :D:D

Thanks Louis & Chris, I am nearest Mt Pocono. I have two more places to try now.

I've noticed that they have disappeared from the Big stores like Wal-mart and Target, but, those stores have been carrying 21st Century and Forces of Valor, so I doubt anti-war sentiments have driven the little green men out. Most what I have seen in the big stores have been small plastic construction workers or policemen. My wal-mart used to carry the Processed Plastic Vietnam figures, but since they've shut down, they didn't replace them with anything.

I can still find the bagged armymen at drugstores like Walgreens and CVS. You can also find them at Hobbytown U.S.A.

Wow, I didn't know Processed Plastic shut down. Timmee is history, then. That's what we were looking for & not seeing. I have seen the newer/nicer figures at times & was wondering how they fit in the picture. What you say about it sounds right. A shift in products not a move away military items. As I think about it now, and with complicated modern action figures setting standards, I guess green army men are just too outdated.

I was in the party store this week and saw lots of cheap green army men in there. I don,t know if you have any of these stores in your neck of the woods but they sells all kinds of party supplies and lots of small toys to fill pinyatas and keeps kids busy. They had a few different sets of bagged figures.

Kind of a side story to this thread but my dad worked with a full bird Colonel who had a dio of plastic green troops in his office. Dad said he would come in there on occasion and swear that the Colonel had been moving them around!! :D

It will be a very sad day in America when we loose our Green army guys- they are traditional like Apple Pie and Baseball!!

Hi Guys,

I just saw a bunch at the local catch all store called Fred Meyers Sort of a local type of Target and Walmart
