First things first. I am an ex history teacher who now works at an auction house that specialises in toys, model railways, film and music memorabilia and comics. Not much to do with soldiers.

However we are beginning to see more and more toy/model soldiers coming to us and recently have had a pretty large collection brought in to us from a deceased estate.

I have been tasked with sorting, researching and organising these. The first batch was a bit of a struggle and go on sale this Saturday. I hope I've done ok. Gulp.
Personally I have a tiny collection of (I've discovered) cheap end Roman soldiers hence why I got the role. New things I have discovered are so many brands I was unaware of - in particularly Aeroart St Petersburg. Sadly, all the ones that the family of the deceased had put in boxes marked Roman soldiers -were in fact Greeks and Persians - but there are a couple of nice war elephants, of which one is Carthaginian!

I have been able to research most of the brands but am at a loss in regards to one set. Searching your forum has enlightened me a little but any more knowledge would be good. Ive got, I suspect somewhere between 150-200 (I haven't counted them) Napoleonic figures marked 'H'eritage, with some saying M. Tabony on underside. I gather from the forum that these have been produced for/sold by Maison Militaire? Does anyone know if there is a catalogue. Usually I'll group soldiers into their sets/regiments etc but have found anything really.

If anyone can help or offer any advice that would be great and keep an eye out for items that we may have. I assume it would break forum rules to advertise directly our sale this weekend or the future one so I shant do it.

Best to all

Kevin

Kevin,

Welcome. I don’t believe there is a catalogue for Heritage or Maison Militaire but some of our English colleagues may know better.

As far as advertising, there is a section called Buying and Selling and you can mention the sales there.

Welcome to the forum, Kevin! Martin Tabony is a member here. He sculpted for a couple of brands, as well as his own. If you could post photos of any pieces you'd like identified, that would help us help you, too.

Prost!

The 2 Brads are among the experts on this Forum.
What they have said seems to sum it up IMHO.
Sounds like a great collection! Best of luck. Remember, if you have to keep some it's your gain:).

Wow thats amazing. I'm back in the office tomorrow playing with soldiers having spent today on the road collecting toy lorries and guiness memorabillia. I'll take some pictures and see if I can work out how to post them.

Thanks again

I think that Bruce at R4a.info did the painting for these figures, however, I might be mistaken.

If taking pics are cutting into your time too much you could give us a more full description of the makers' product #'s/designations and names of sets and the manufacturers/dates of the sets.
I hope you learn what you need to and I'd love to see some photo examples of your "tiny" collection. I wish more people had smaller but impressive collections like you have inherited. "Heavy-hitters" buy a large percentage of all figures but smaller collectors would invigorate the Hobby IMO. My friends like Toy Soldiers but never went overboard the way Dad & I & many Forum members have.^&grin
