Thought I would give this book a plug. I picked it up last year at Cold Harbor. It is part of the US Army War College guides to the Civil War.
Anyone who likes this part of the Civil War will really like it. It used the Official Records (the reports filed by the officers) or if none exist. First Hand accounts. It covers all of Grant's Petersburg Offensives. And it includes maps so you can drive to the location and view the terrain (if it is not a housing development yet!). It is about 500 pages.
Oh. Another nice thing is that if you want to just read about a particular area (like Deep Bottom Or Weldon Railroad). You can skip to that section without losing anything.
Anyway. I highly recommend it. it is nice to read what the officers actually wrote. The writers also set things up and provide good narrative
