Dear All
Welcome to our September newsletter with 2 new aircraft to hopefully tempt you with this month. All our aircraft are hand carved in Mahogany and take around 60 hours to manufacture, each comes with a full interior and all are limited editions. All our aircraft can be paid for upfront or 3-6 payments spread over a number of months if this suits instead, please drop us an email to welcome@tomgunn.co.uk for details. All our aircraft will eventually appear on our website and can be bought this way or by emailing us as above to reserve your model. These will be the Strutters or Sopwith Triplanes we produce for the foreseeable future so grab one whilst you can.
WOW128; The Sopwith Strutter was a WW1 British designed two seat multi role biplane utilised by the RAF, American, Belgian and French Air forces. Post war it was operated by several air forces including the Japanese in their 1918 Siberian campaign. It was significant in its development in that it was the first British two seat ‘tractor’ fighter and also the first to enter service with a front firing synchronised machine gun. It was given the name 1½ Strutter because of the long and short cabane struts that supported the top wing. The Strutter was flown by several aces including Raymond Collishaw VC and several thousand aircraft were built during its service career. The Strutter was over 25ft long with a wingspan exceeding 33ft, it normally carried a crew of 2 and had a maximum speed of 100 MPH. This new version of the Strutter in French Air Service comes in a striking light blue colour scheme with a black elephant emblem on the fuselage. This version is limited to 10 pieces worldwide and is priced at $399 plus $100 postage worldwide, comes with free sample of GW067A ‘The Tinker’ figure as per the photos. UK/EU price is £350, postage may vary depending on your location.

WOW140 The Sopwith Triplane was a British single seat fighter aircraft designed and manufactured by the Sopwith Aviation Company during the First World War. It was the first military Triplane to see operational service. The Triplane joined Royal Naval Air Service squadrons in early 1917 and was an immediate success. It was nevertheless built in comparatively small numbers and was withdrawn from active service as Sopwith Camels arrived in the latter half of 1917. Surviving Triplanes continued to serve as operational trainers until the end of the war. The initial "prototype of what was to be referred to simply as the Triplane" first flew on 28 May 1916, with Sopwith test pilot Harry Hawker at the controls. Within three minutes of takeoff, Hawker startled onlookers by looping the aircraft, serial N500, three times in succession The Triplane was very agile, with effective, well-harmonised controls. When manoeuvring, however, the Triplane presented an unusual appearance. One observer noted that the aircraft looked like "a drunken flight of steps" when rolling. Our green coloured version of the Sopwith Triplane is N6307 which was flown by Lt Sharman who served with 10 Sqn RNAS under Raymond Collishaw, Sharman was unfortunately shot down and killed in this aircraft on the 22nd July. All the aircraft in this flight had the prefix 'black' attached to their names and Sharman claimed 6 out of his 7 victories in this Triplane. Black Flight claimed a total of 87 German aircraft in a 3 month period whilst under the command of Raymond Collishaw. Our Triplane comes with free figure GW065A ‘The Orderly’ as per the photos. This model is limited to 10 pieces worldwide and is priced at $399 plus approx $100 shipping. UK/EU price is £350 plus whatever shipping rate applies to your country of residence.

Some more beautiful aircraft from TGM. I like the possibility of putting TGM's new Sopwith triplane, 'Black Death' of 10 Squadron RNAS, together with JJD's 'Black Maria' to form part of Collishaw's Black Flight. Pretty neat. -- Al
