Hi all-

Question for those of you who own a K&C Hanomag (Sd.Kfz.251 Halftrack).

I recently acquired one and was wondering about the purpose for the rear gun bracket. Yes, the front machine gun is removable but permanently mounted to the anti-aircraft armor plate which connects to the vehicle by way of two posts. Unfortunately, one can not connect the armor plate to the rear unless the machine gun is meant to detach. Does this make sense? Bottom line, no machine gun for the rear.

Anyone wonder about this or am I missing something? Perhaps the rear gun bracket is only meant for looks (as pictured below)?

WO ,

The Sdkfz 251 ( Hanomag ) had this swing arm attached to the rear of the it...So while we cannot attach a machine gun to our K&C piece...It is a historic accuracy that it is present on this AFV...

Thanks Joe. Appreciate the answer. "Swing arm", did not know what to call it. At first I thought that maybe my set was missing a machine gun as I own a few in 1/32 and 1/18 scale that include rear guns. Then I thought, maybe the front gun is suppose to detach from the armor plate for alternate rear placement.

I must say that I really like the desert 251. It's a fantastic piece by K&C, heavy, nicely weathered, and I like being able to place figures inside. I went back to your 222 and Hanomag post to see better images. Maybe I'll pursue the 222 in the future.

Thanks again!

WO ,

I would highly reccommend the K&C DAK 222 , as a DAK collector an Sdkfz 222 is a must own...I did not own the original K&C DAK 222 , so when this latest version arrived it was a must own IMO...
I also have the 222 in grey...great little piece...Also a versatile Diorama piece...

Ya, I've been looking at it as well; also checking Ebay for the first version. I like the figures with the first but it draws a hefty price these days. I may end up with the new one and the plus is that is sort of matches the style of the 251.

Trying to build up my British 8th Army as well; so many things on my list...

EDIT: Appreciate the pictures. Looks awesome!

EDIT: always liked the 222:

WO ,

I agree so many things on my list as well...Also looking to add to my 8th Army , the 25 pdr - on the list...
The Original K&C 222 does list on Ebay @ quite hefty prices...The two soldiers which come with that 222 are quite nice , that being said this revised 222 is the one to own IMO...
Looking forward to Feb dispatches...If there is nothing that raises my attention , i am going to pick up a winter Jagdpanther...

One reason that there is no gun on the rear "swing arm" mount is that I believe that the rear mount was intended for use with the infantry squad's light machine gun, whereas the front weapon was regarded as part of the vehicle's equipment. There was a bracket inside the Sdkfz 251/1 APC for the MG 34 or 42 that was part of the infantry squad being carried. That gun could also be placed on the rear mount for AA defense or for extra firepower if the squad was fighting from the vehicle. When the squad dismounteed they took their MG with them, so nothing remained on the rear mount (unless the halftrack crew had "acquired" and extra gun in the fashion that soldiers are wont to do).

Thanks, I had tried adding a figure with machine gun in hand but didn't line up very well. Appreciate the info though.

Joe:

In my book the winter one is great and a close second to the AK one.

Jason ,

I have tried my best to stay away from the Winter theatre...But have given in to temptation as of late...
Last month i bought the TGM Winter Hetzer , just last night i ordered the K&C Winter Jagdpanther...The 222 is an iconic german AFV IMO...and the winter version is @ the top of my to get list...

Joe:

The temptation is worth giving into, lol. I have loved the K&C 222’s going back to AK 024.

The new winter 222 is phenomenal, you will not regret it.

This is how my collecting got carried away! I was all set to only collect Normandy figures and vehicles then I got tempted to buy winter stuff, then I got tempted to buy desert stuff and then all my constraints went out the window! {eek3}{sm4}

Getting a little off topic, but I'm choosing to only buy desert, and I've decided to stick with that.

But I sure do like the other stuff...
