Taken an original St Petersburg or other high roller figure and used it as a master to produce, pirated, bootleg ,unoriginal -whatever versions and any photos of the copies?

No, because to do so would violate international copyright laws. It is true that Russia does not appear to pay much attention to such laws, but I don't think that you want to take that chance.

The actual intent meaning for personal use basicaly rather then opening a st pete knockoff business, corp. As I have done it with a few lesser items and most casting supplies advertise "reproduce anything easily etc" can a visit from the KGB or MI5 be very far off. I LL tremble whenever the front door chimes.

Copyright issues aside, taking apart a St Petersburg casting would be akin to using a $5 American Eagle to buy ice cream, wouldn't it?

I'd look first among the various Russian figure producers' websites, and on eBay, for those who also sell via eBay, for the castings. Many pieces painted by the Russians can be found in their unpainted form, and I have seen examples of the same casting painted in various styles and to different levels of quality (some of the figures that Sergei Ilyashenko sells as Lead Army, for example).

That doesn't necessarily apply to every single figure every produced, of course, but it might be less costly to locate and buy the casting, and then bash it and paint it, rather than to strip, bash and repaint one painted to the highest Russian standard.

Prost!

I'd tend to agree. The castings are not much more than the 'average' casting. The price comes in the paint work.

True,,I bashed an Ed Jones farmer with milk pail and the painting came out almost as well as his final figures before the insane asylum came calling.

Now, with an old figure like one from Jones, I'd use the original as a master, make a mold, and use my casting for the bash.

Prost!

My farmer had one foot,,part of a pail and no paint,,used it after the hospital repair,,I admire ed jones as I compare myself to him very much especially his fate.
