As Alex has pointed out the images are not the most recent and some are very fuzzy and don't appear any clearer at 100 feet than they do at 10,000. But it still is a great site to look at the world and any feature you choose to visit. Google' next step is a street level mapping system using the same technology to enhance photographs of actual sites and directions to get there instead of the old fashioned multi-fold graphic map.
Using Google Earth you can see the jets parked on the various air bases across the world, ships in harbor, it does not show the oceans as other than composite photos, or you can visit historical sites; see London, see Paris, see Paris' underpants...well not quite that good but you can really visit Gettysberg from on high or Waterloo or Ft. Monroe in VA.
