I know some info has been mentioned on another thread about the above mini series. Go to www.hbo.com/films/news/
It has some great info on The Pacific series and another HBO series, Kill, coming out in 08 about a Marine unit in the first days of the invasion of Iraq in 03.
With the Sopranos over, I now have good reason to keep HBO for a few more years.
Andy, don,t retire your Japs & Marines just yet!

HBO has become a television wasteland for me since the ending of Deadwood, Rome, Carnivàle, Oz and the Sopranos. I hope that the team of Hanks and Spielberg will pull this off with as much class as SPR or BOB.

Michael, you are right about HBO, not much on anymore that I watch other than Real Sports.
I agree about the Sopranos and Deadwood being excellent. I tried watching Rome but became extremely bored after a few episodes. I also watched most of Oz, on DVD, but as I looked back, that series was idiotic.
I,m currently rewatching the Sopranos & BOB on DVD, gotta to be the best two tv series of all time.

Gary, I agree with your evaluation of Oz. It seemed to follow the typical HBO pattern. Great first and second seasons. Reasonable third and maybe fourth, but after that, down hill. Rome was the same way and in some ways so was Deadwood. I think that they just ran out of new plot ideas that were logical to the series. Look at all the movies being made in the past few years that are remakes of old TV series or previously released movies. Creativity seems to be running on about an 1/8th of a tank.:(

I can see your point but HBO was the groundbreaker for cable series. Oz was the first great cable series, in my opinion, as it started in 1997 - well before the Sopranos and other series so if there was a "pattern" Oz laid it down.

Rome only lasted two seasons and while I agree it had issues in season 2 I attribute it to the sophomore slump - who anticipates a second season when it comes to tv writers as most fail after a few episodes? I love Deadwood for the dialog, not that it is accurate, but for its theatrical qualities. Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant, in particular, were fantastic. In many ways it is reminiscent of rock music today in that they don't allow for a declination in quality/presentation before they cancel the contract/series.

Considering what we have to watch these days - and HBO gave us Band of Brothers as well - I'm willing to give a pass here and there for the sake of "hopefully" good television. With that being said, I really enjoyed Dexter and Brotherhood on Showtime.

I have been awaiting this series ever since pre-production surveys. For all of you European war geeks, I firmly believe in what Hanks and Spielberg said in thier initial interviews on this major series. They both stated that THIS series, is the FINEST work we have done on WWII.

From this one trailer, it looks very promising to me and may make Ryan and BOB look like Romper Room at Bozo's circus.

Can't wait for this TRUE series to happen.............Stryker II
