Hello everyone. I have been an avid fan of this forum for some time and this is my first posting. I've been looking for VN-05, the helicopter that goes with the K&C Vietnam series. Does anyone have a suitable substitute recommendation? A helo with the rear doors open would be preferable to allow for the K&C gunner and others to fit inside.

Like the rest of you, over the past several years I've made large contributions to Andy's retirement fund. Although I started in the hobby in the early 70s as a collector of Britains Deetail, in the 90s I discovered K&C and have been hooked ever since. I collect virtually everything K&C, though I've run out of space to display things. All the best fellow K&C fans and many thanks, David

Welcome on board David, (and thanks for that positive feedback on eBay too).

The Huey famine has been something of a running headache for the past couple of years. There are some 1/35th scale metal models out there, such as those made by Panda, but they'd look ridiculous with the K&C VN sets.

All Wood Wings do a hollow/open interior Huey but it looks on the small side of 1/32 and for that price you'd really want to be sure:

Historic Aviation have something similar, but it's unclear as to how much would be charged for a customised open interior:

There are plenty of model kits out there, Revell's version providing the basis for numerous Cobra adaption kits, but then you've got to send the kit to be pro-built if you're the sort who takes several months to build one (and hour per hour it still does work out cheaper to get it done by someone else).

How about a crude but cheap 1/32nd scale Huey? See:

Or a slightly more expensive version in the 1st Air Cavalry markings? See:

Even if you're not capable of surgical precision you could probably get away with inflicting some damage on them in the name of K&C compatibility science.

Sooner than later it's going to be cheaper to buy a factory in the Philippines and build our own rather than pay the current rate for some of the retired sets.
