I've just acquired an odd lot of Hong Kong police figures. Some are stamped with what looks to be "A&C 92" on the bases. Does anyone know who might have made them? The farthest to the right is approx 90mm, the others are similar in size. The figure on the right may or may not be RHKP4 By King & Country (based on a quick ebay search and me bugging a seller for info) but I'm really no expert.

Nice figures but don't think they're King & Country as the bases are are all wrong; could be knockoffs although K & C did make a 90mm figure.

I think that Frontline, base in HK, did make a series of Policemen and Elite forces which were sold under another name, so could be from them???

I don't think Frontline would have made a brand called "A & C." That is why I thinks it's a knockoff.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I hadn't thought of the possibility that they might be King & Country knockoffs. The 4 figures marked A&C don't really resemble any of the King & Country Hong Kong police that I've found, though it's entirely possible.

They're entirely in the "Chinese style", which is typified by King-White/Reeves, and reflected in early K&C and Frontline. I'm not sure, but I think some of the same sculptors/casters worked on many line, and may still continue to do so.

Prost!

It was the Altaya part works range, produced by Frontline and although similar in style (they did a HK riot cop and several SWAT-ty type figures), these aren't theirs.

I sent a link to the thread to Andy to see if he wants to comment.

Just checked thr photo book put together by Louis Badolato and Kevin Elliott. None of the 54mm sculpts shown above are in the book, but the 90mm figure is in there and looks an exact match in sculpt, base and paint.

As an aside, if the '92' refers to 1992 as the manufacturing date, these would precede the K&C releases which were 1993 releases.

Heard from Andy. He indicates that the 90mm is indeed K & C but the others not. That figure is quite rare so you have yourself a real catch there ^&cool

Thank you Jazzeum, I wouldn't have been sure how to reach out to Andy myself. I appreciate you taking the time out to contact him.

Much thanks for helping out with research Brad!

Frontline makes the DeAgostini figures? "I did not know that."

I'll look and see if I can find anything in my references about "A&C". "92" I take to be "1992".

Prost!

Not at all Tom. I've been collecting K & C glossy for years and am glad to help out.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any reference to "A&C" yet. Certainly does sound like a copycat, when you say the name out loud, doesn't it?

There was no reference in John Garratt's Encyclopedia, but since that was published in '81, it was a long shot. I also looked in my copy of Bertel Bruun's paperback guide, which is more contemporary to these figures, but there was no mention there, either. And no mention in O'Brien's "Collecting Toy Solders-Collecting Foreign-Made Toy Soldiers". I have old catalogs that I'll check next.

Prost!

Again, thanks to everyone who helped out. I have a few more figures that look like dime stores to me. The set of 4 I've had a while just no ideas on who makes them. Thought maybe someone here would know. No markings on the bases and they're in pretty rough shape. Any thoughts?

The semi-round doughboys in your first photo are homecasts, from various molds from the Rapaport Bros' Home Foundry catalog.

I checked in O'Brien and found the soldier with a bazooka, he is by Barclay, catalog #990. The marching soldier is also a Barclay, a Marine, and I think this one is referred to as a "short stride" figure. There was another version, with a longer stride on a more oval base. I'm still looking for the machine gunner in my references.
