I have been asked by a local collector if I can identify what these 2 figures are

101_3522.JPG

They look to me to be from the mid 1700's, possibly Germany 7 YW with the one on the left having a Fusilier hat, but uncertain about the other one.

As you can see he has started to paint them, but requires some guidance and if anyone knows who makes them, that would also be useful,

thanks,

John

I've seen these on eBay from time to time, John. I believe that they were made in Europe, especially since I see them more frequently on eBay/Germany than on our version. I've always thought that they look like Russians more than anything else, from Catherine's reign, into the early years of the Revolutionary wars.

Also, I think they present a rather stylized image of a soldier, rather than a closely accurate depiction of any particular unit.

Prost!

Brad,

thanks for that lead on the uniforms .... I've checked in 'Lace Wars' by Funcken and the headdress on the right hand figure looks very similar to a Russian soldier, and seeing that the flag has a double eagle, I think I'll let the guy know that they are Russians and give him some uniform plates to use.

If he's got any spare figures, I'll see if I can get some to paint up, and I'll post them here,

John

John,

Can you post photos (if possible) when they're painted.

Brad
