Yo Troopers, any of you Maths guys help with a Calculation for my Oil Tank. Just moved into new house and its Oil fired seems to be quite expensive. What I need to know the tank is round and the specifications are: Dia = 1440mm or 55.69". Height is 1630mm or 64". Capacity is 1360 litres or 300 gall. Can anyone work out how many litres would 1" of Oil equate to, so I can try and keep track of what I am using per week. Not being the shiniest penny in the roll:redface2: need some help here guys.
Many Thanks Men:salute::
Bernard.

Well don't take it for gospel Bernard (I hated math in school) but I make it 21.25 litres.

Yo Scott, impressed mate many thanks, didn't have you down as a clever clogs^&grin, hope we can have a second opinion just to make sure. On your caculation that means I have used 400 litres in 9 weeks so dont know how that works out with you other guys on an oil fired system, it would be nice to know Troopers.

that would be roughly 44 litres per week. Not sure if that is good or bad though as I use gas for my heating.

I do know we use less than that in our pickup per week :)

That's what I make it too Scott. Which means we both get a gold star, or both sit in the corner with a conical paper hat on. :p

Bernard, Because I'm no math wiz either, this is going to only partly help you, and/or I'm wearing the pointy paper hat also. I coordinate a heating oil co-op in New York. I have a chart in front of me now with different size tanks, but 1- it's in gallons, and 2- our standard sizes are 275, 550, and 1080. But in the 275 size, the largest diameter is 44 and 1/2 ". That's the closest size I have to yours, and 1" is 2 gallons. From there you'll have to guess at the difference. But it sounds like Scott's answer is close to the mark. You should ask your dealer to give you a chart, so you can monitor it better. Be careful not to let it run down too close to the bottom; oil has a tendency to form sludge and clog the lines/nozzle. I hope this helps.

Best wishes...

Joe
