hello all
not sure if this is of interest to anyone but thought i would pass it along anyway,
last nite i was channel surfing and passed by the history station and antique roadshow was on, (up here in Canada they have the show on the history channel, not sure about the U.S. station though) and there was a gentleman on who had this old boxed playset, it was from a company called Heyde and it was a Buffalo Bill Wild West Set, quite large actually with a stagecoach, wagon, and several mounted figures (about 15 or so, maybe more), believe it or not the figures were still mint in the box and attached to the backer board, the figures themselves were quite neat and looked pretty good for being made that long ago, they were untouched and unplayed, the box was still intact but did show signs of being over 100yrs old, but still pretty good, the only other fault was one mounted figure had a small crack on the horses foot, it was sure something to see that something this old could have survived in this condition, the more interesting part of the item was the history behind it, apparently the original owner, a gentleman who bought this item back in 1903 hoped of one day having a son, well NO GO, he had 3 daughters, and his daughters had no sons either only daughters yet once again LOL, so needless to say this box of toy soldiers was passed around from family to family to family until one day it went for an estate auction (not sure how long ago) but the gentleman who was on the show was the one that bought it, not sure what he paid but i did here mention possibly 2K, anyway according to the appraiser a set like this had recently sold for roughly 12k at auction and was not in the same shape as this one, so the estimate today on this particular set was 15k at auction,
i am sorry i did miss part of the show as i tuned in right in the middle of it, i did try to find some more info today online but no luck,
just something i thought i would pass this on to all you nostalgic type folk
keep enjoying the hobby
