I hope I am welcome here, but I must confess that I am one of those heretical 15mm wargamer types. I no longer do 54mm-1/32, 1/30, 1/35, etc.

That said, I love the toy soldier look, rather than the super-realistic look. I just finished five (small, skirmish level) armies (I've been painting like a fiend recently), one each of Mahdists, Cossacks, Ottoman Turks, Zulus and French colonials: all were done in glossy paint jobs with shiny, solid black bases, and I think they all look great.

So, if I'm not welcome here, I understand, but you guys are much more in synch with the way I do things artistically, and I'd love to stick around, and give and take secrets.

Here is a contribution:

Anything "toy soldier" is welcome......very interesting presentation.

Welcome!
My name is Sandor Farkas, and I collect 54s, mostly Naps with some Colonial (as in Sudan, Zulu, etc...) era. You are of course welcome here, we have people from every niche and era of this hobby, and I'm sure you will fit right in! SO what eras do you do mainly? What main conventions/clubs do you game at? Do you ever do Histoicon (that's the main gaming one I go to)?
All the best,
Sandor

Hi Gloriousbattle,

Welcome to the Treefrog forum! Your presentation is very nicely accomplished and I have no doubt you will make wonderful contributions to the forum. Please visit often and post frequently. I look forward to learning more about painting from you!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Thanks gents. I do a large number of eras, including 19th century colonials (obviously), WW2, heroic fantasy, horror, science fiction, Russian Civil War, and a few others I am always threatening to start on. I even do 40k, but even that in 15mm figures and toy soldier painting style.

As to cons, I almost never get the chance (pretty busy work schedule) even though I live in Columbus, Ohio, which now hosts Origins. If I get a little free time, I may do one of the small, local cons.

Cheers!

Hi, GB, and welcome! Of course, you're welcome here, wargaming figures are still toy soldiers. There's a good number of us painters here, too, as well as those who cast our own, even a few sculptors, as well as guys who collect completed figures commercially made. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Prost!
Brad

There's a good number of us... ...who cast our own...

Prost!
Brad

Very cool! I used to cast Prince August Minis, as well as some of the molds the Dunken Company made on their own. I also make my own molds out of silicone rtv, though I never learned to sculpt.

Which boards do the home casters use?

Thanks
