Hey Guys,

I found this old WWII movie while trolling on YouTube. I’ve never seen this one before.

It’s a different kind of film starring James Cagney, James Weaver, and others. The exceptional sound track was composed by Roger Wagner (Choral Singers).

Not a lot of action shots but it more than makes up for it with the difficulties and consequences of command decisions by Admiral Halsey during Guadalcanal. I liked it maybe you will too.

to see it.

Enjoy,

Carlos

I saw it a long time ago.Cagney was one of my favorite actors and to see him as an admiral was something different. He made a better admiral than a cowboy.

Terrific movie. Cagney is great, as always. I really enjoyed all the 'inside' dope of the command decisions. And you are spot on about the soundtrack, as it is very haunting. -- Al

Agree with this. Cagney was great in just about anything he did, except he couldn't quite pull off the cowboy persona. Gangster, sailor, soldier, flyer, dancer, and even comedy. He could do it all. -- Al

Remember seeing it "Back in the Day" and being bored outta my skull but more recent viewings it's not a bad flic even if 'Chester' has lost his limp.

From what I've read Cagney was really a song and dance man,I loved him in The Strawberry Blonde and the one where he played George M. Cohen.Of course he is known for his gangster movies.I always got a kick out of he was the good gangster and Bogart was the bad gangster.I liked him in all his movies but he was hard to take as a cowboy.Wasn't The Oklahoma Kid the one I'm thinking of?

Oklahoma Kid is probably the one. Yankee Doodle Dandy is the Cohan bio-pic. I love his gangster/bad guy roles. I think his turn as Cody Jarrett in White Heat is one of his best. "Top of the world, Ma!" -- Al
