I received a photo this morning of the new non-catalog set ACADEMIA MILITAR MARISCAL FRANCISCO SOLANO LOPEZ, PARAGUAY. This represents only the second Paraguayan set made by Hiriart.

This is one of the many non-catalogue sets that I directly ordered from Guillermo. This set is based on Hiriart set 1094 parade march but painted as the military school of Paraguay. The waist belt is painted this way to reflect the cartridge belt the cadets are wearing. To keep the price for this set low ($140,-) I asked Guillermo not to make this cartridge belt but to paint it as a normal waist belt, but Guillermo nevertheless painted it as such.

This is the photo of this school that I have send to Guillermo for the uniform colors. Again I was not so much interested in their parade march. Also see the cartridge belt I did not wanted.

Nice photo. The Hiriart set figures may have slightly darker blue uniforms than those in your photo.

Yes but I have other photos of this school where the blue is darker. So again the spell of the sunlight. The photo depicts the army cadets. The air force cadets have the same uniform but in grey and the navy cadets are in navy blue.
Peter,
a retired Dutch LtCol of the infantry living in Germany due to his last posting at a NATO HQ in Heidelberg,
Collector of 1/32 gloss painted toy soldiers, including Hiriart, for the past 63 years.

Hi Peter,

To be sure; having been an amateur photographer for 50 years, the sun does have an effect on the colors. Do you have any photos of the air force or navy cadets?

Interesting background! Also, I, and I am sure others, would love to see photos of your collection under the forum's "Collection" section.

My wife and I vacationed in Amsterdam last summer and the summer before as part of various escorted or river cruise tours. I first visited Amsterdam in 1964 on a three day pass when I was serving in the U.S. Army Security Agency in Bad Aibling, Germany. The highest rank I achieved was specialist 4th class (same as a corporal), but I did turn down an opportunity to attend Officers Candidate School.

Best regards,

Mike

P.S. On my pending 2016 Hiriart order, I have commissioned four sets of WWII Dutch Infantry, 1940, which is part of my continuing effort to collect toy soldiers from some of the less well represented World War II combatants (e.g., Finns, Poles, Slovaks, Hungarians, Romanians, Spanish Blue Division, Kuban Cossacks, etc).

Hello Mike,
As requested I have included photos of this academy/school of Paraguay. Interesting to see that you also served in the armed forces. I retired in 2003 giving me a lot of time to spend with my family and of course our common hobby (my wife is telling me its not a hobby but an obsession and maybe she is wright!). I'll post photos of my collection in the appropriate forum. I did already posted photos in the forum Britains gloss Thread Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and thread the Golden Jubilee. My collection is all about ceremonial stuff and regiments of the world with bands, colour parties and escorts.

I'm very pleased to hear that you had a good time in Amsterdam and were not robbed there!
