I have always been a big fan of the Boxer Rebellion since I first saw the movie "55 Days in Peking" in Paris in 1963. I particularly like all the interesting and varied uniforms of the International forces that took part and find the Chinese figures to also be unusual subject matter. I have more than 40 sets of Trophy of Wales and Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion sets in my collection. These days they are very hard to come by. Hiriart has a number of sets currently available in its catalog from this era.

1231 CHINESE BOXER INFANTRY

1311 JAPANESE INFANTRY

1318 RUSSIAN INFANTRY

More sets to follow.

Here is another Hiriart set that is from the Boxer Rebellion era, 1267 SCHUTZTRUPPE. They are in uniforms like the German East Asia Brigade which had two infantry brigades, each composed of two regiments, each with two 800 man battalions under Graf von Waldersee during the campaign.

Among the French units that participated in the Boxer Rebellion campaign were the Chasseurs de Africa. I have the Trophy of Wales version, who are dismounted and kneeling firing. I don't believe that Bastion Models made a set of the chasseurs. In any case, here is a photo of Hiriart set 1168 CHASSEURS DE AFRICA.

There were also several Indian Army regiments sent to China as a part of the expeditionary corps. They included Bengal, Punjab, Bombay, Rajput, Baluchistan, and Sikh regiments. I believe they were all wearing khaki uniforms by this time. Here is a photo of Hiriart set 1161 PUNJAB INFANTRY which would go nicely with the Boxer Rebellion sets.

Italian Sailors from their crusier squadron in China were initially involved in the Boxer Rebellion fighting. Trophy of Wales did not make any, but Bastion Models did. Their are none from Hiriart either. However, both Trophy and Bastion plus Tradition have made sets of the Italian Bersaglieri Light Infantry which contributed eight companies to China. Here is Hiriart's version from this period: 1269 COLONIAL BERSAGLIERI.

Another version is set 1193 ITALIAN BERSAGLIERI, 1900 wearing their dress blue uniforms. Both Trophy (two different sets) and Bastion have their Boxer Rebellion Bersaglieri sets in their blue uniforms, but with white helmets.l

The only regular British regiment that took part in the Boxer Rebellion was the ROYAL WELSH FUSILIERS. Trophy's version has them wearing a khaki helmet with a white band, khaki tunics, and blue trousers with a red stripe. Bastion Models' version has them in all khaki with white Slade-Wallace web gear. Hiriart set 1164 BRITISH INFANTRY, SUDAN, 1883 has the figures in white helmets which Hiriart could easily supply painted khaki to bring them to the 1900 period. They would also be perfect that way as Boer War Infantry, too.

Actually, on second thought, the British Infantry in the Sudan would look better for the Boxer Rebellion or the Boer War in different helmets as in the attached photo of the 2nd Dragoons.
