Another Latin American set that I have ordered is Set 1288 ESCOLTA PRESIDENCIAL DE COLUMBIA. Some interesting information on this unit from the book I mentioned on the Columbian Military Academy thread earlier today, is that this battalion has its origins in the Simone Bolivar Guard Corps founded in 1814. It is formed by five companies of the Columbian army (Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, Engineers, and National Guard). It goes on to say that the Battalion of the Guard of Honor was created in 1928 and, like all private soldiers in the Columbian army, they serve without pay.

One would be hard pressed to differentiate these Columbian uniforms from those of the Prussians in 1870 except for the matching blue pants on the former versus black pants on the latter.

This is Hiriart's non-catalog band version of the Escolta Presidencial.

Very sharp looking band. -- Al

Thanks Al. The band only has 16 figures rather than the normal 19, so I suspect that it was made for Italian dealer Stefano Allorini of SAIMEX Toys in Italy.
