As one might expect, Uruguay based Hiriart has produced a wide range of Latin American themed sets. Here is a new catalog offering of set number 1352 Escolta Presidencial, Revival Dress, Chile. German influence is a common element in Chilean military uniforms.

Very German and very striking in that light/dark blue! I assume these are from your new stash that turned up recently Mike?

Hi Jeff,

Yes, that is a striking combination. Did you notice that the trumpeter's banner was different on each side? Also, I am not sure what the significance of the flagbearer's red flag with the white star is all about. Actually, these are not part of my newest stash, but from a CD that was included in the shipment.

It's the national flag which dates back to 1817. The star represents honor and pride although it may represent the three branches of government. The blue square symbolizes the Pacific Ocean and the blue sky. The flag is called La Estrella Solitaria, the Lone Star.

Thanks for the information Brad on Chile's national flag. Do you know anything about the red flag with white star that the flagbearer is carrying? Thanks.

Mike,

The only thing I could find out was that the color red in Chilean flags symbolizes the blood spilled during the war for independence against Spain.

Thanks Brad. Since it is carried by the president's escort, it must have some historic significance.

This is a non-catalog set of mounted Chilean general staff officers in the mid-20th century wearing both German picklehuabe and stahlhelms.
