Here is a photo of a Hiriart non-catalog set with an unusual, rarely seen, and interesting subject matter. It is ESCUELA POLITECNICA CABALLERIA, GUATEMALA. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was how similar their uniforms were to Japanese Cavalry during the Boxer Rebellion or the Russo-Japanese War of 1904. When I showed Bob Walker (who probably knows more about military uniforms than anyone I know) the photo of the set he instantly agreed. Osprey's Men-at-Arms series number 95 "The Boxer Rebellion" has color plates showing both a Japanese Cavalry trooper and an officer (plates D and H, respectively.) Of course, I am now contemplating having this set made for my collection as both Japanese Cavalry and, as seen below, Guatemalan Cavalry, on a future order.
